Festool OF 2200 in a Kreg table

Hi everyone,

I have been wondering if anyone has mounted an OF-2200 in a Kreg table and liked the results?  What are the pitfalls and what should I avoid doing when I mount it?  Is the dust extraction in a Kreg table suitable, or does it need to be modified?  The CMS table comes with a shroud to protect the router when mounting it upside down - is that really necessary, and if so where can I get one?  I've taken a look at the Jerry Works web site, and does anyone else use the support widener base plate rather than the standard base plate?  Also does anyone use the extra holes in the router to screw it into the kreg table, or is the base plate latch strong enough to hold the router forever upside-down?

I'm posting from Australia, and options are very limited here, hence the Kreg router table as the least worst choice.  (We can't get the CMS router table top - I've tried three stores, all said it has been dropped from the Australian distributors' catalogues).

Is a Porter Cable router motor mounted in a nice lift ann option? That's what I did and the cost is low and the ease of use is high. The bonus is that my 2200 is freed up for other work.

I'm going to second what [member=15289]Birdhunter[/member] has said. The Festool routers are great in a CMS but I don't know of a practical way to use them in another table that would justify doing so. I feel bad leaving one of the Festool routers mounted as it is. If I didn't own a CMS I wouldn't go out of my way to mount a 2200 in another table I'd look at the Porter Cable mentioned and keep the 2200 for free hand routing and pickup the accessory kit second hand if you don't own it already.

The main draw for most people to the Festool routers mounted in a CMS is they don't have to dedicate shop space to a permanent router table in their shop. If I had the space to have a router table setup 24/7 I'd likely buy or make a cabinet with all the bells and whistles.

My gut tells me while the CMS has been discontinued they (Festool) must be working on an alternative. It's too useful of a system to mobile carpenters to just let it go. If I were you I'd do whatever you need to get by keeping in mind you may want to sell it later for when and if that happens.

I'm going to go with [member=15289]Birdhunter[/member] on this, too.  The Porter-Cable 75182 motor in a Woodpeckers PRL v2 lift would be a great choice, if I didn't have the OF 2200 and the CMS.

Just in case no one noticed, Harry lives in Australia, where the single-phase line voltage is 230V 50Hz (same as Germany). Does Porter-Cable make a router for the Australian or European market?

Hi,

I can't seem to find the PC router for sale in Australia.  There are other Porter-Cable power tools available, but not the router.  To be honest I don't use the router very much, and I will be using it mostly in the table going forward, so buying a second one would be a waste.

Does no one use the Kreg router tables with Festool routers?  The salesman implied it was a fairly common setup.  He even warned me about using the base plate latch to hold it in place as it's such a heavy router...

I have the same setup, a PC 3hp router motor in my Kreg table and router lift.  Works great.

In the US, the PC is about $320, vs the OF 2200 is $970.    The difference in price pays for the router lift with lots of money left over.
