Festool on Discovery Channel's Gold Rush

I didn't really care for Dakota Fred at first, then  he started to grow on me. But after he begged Parker to dig their site out of the snow, then wouldn't sell them an electrical panel at a reasonable price, I kinda hope karma catches up with old Freddy boy.  Couple that with how he weaselled his claim from Todd, I feel like Fred is a snake to everyone but his son.

Todd and Dave have made some pretty big mistakes already with Todd spending a quarter million on an unproven trammel, and then they drilled test holes on the wrong land only to later find out that the actual land they leased is unworkable from too much overburden.  With two expensive machines, Todds trammel and Dave's sloose box on steroids on one site, seems like they may run out of dirt to run on one claim.  Looks like Todd's crew may be looking at a break even year again.

our festool hat wearing friend seems to be such a nice guy, but very accident prone and apologetic, not good to have around heavy machinery when lives may be at risk.  I think this guy is one mistake away from getting the boot . Looks like it will be a great and interesting season.

At least this year Todd finally figured out that drilling test holes could save them a lot of wasted effort. Amazed that it took him three seasons after "experimenting" with test holes in Season 2. Looked to me like the expense of the test holes was more than offset by the savings in not working the wrong property.

Best quote until now: Todd Hoffman: "I thought we were done looking like idiots" (referring to Dave's excavation of the wrong clain)

One of the best shows on TV, but I sure hate to see the wanton disregard for the land.

If you want too see a real life "gold rush" of sorts, head out to the Bakken oil field in North Dakota; in particular Williston, ND.  Once you see the area and are surrounded by the rush it's hard not to stay to get in on the action for yourself... at least for me that's how it was/is.
