Found a guy in my area selling a seven year old HL850E asking $250. Says the unit cuts slightly deeper than 1/32" on one side and needs to be adjusted. The current model is listed as HL 850 E-F-Plus - is there much difference?

The "-F" means "Fractional", which means "measurements marked in inches".

The "-Plus" means "includes Systainer".

I don't know that there have been any appreciable changes to the HL850E in the last 7 years.

I could be wrong but there's no mechanism in the HL850 to adjust blade head tilt so far as I'm aware?

To me it sounds like there's some wear or possibly damage causing a difference on DOC, having said that though, it's less than 1mm so I'd be jumping at buying it at that price.

It's also quite possible he's maybe not keeping even pressure, producing a slight difference. Either way, it's the best planer ever made IMHO. And you can buy spiral TCT insert heads from CSP Tooling very cheap. Mine was around $120AUD all up I think.

Could just be the blade needs to be re-seated in the head, I doubt the head goes out of alignment without it being obvious. It's a very robust tool.

If it's been pulled apart at anytime it's possible the thin liner (not sure exactly what you'd call that part) on the toe plate has worn/broken in part, which does cause a bit of slop there.
