Festool Power supply

Hi,

I emailed the Festool sales guy in New Zealand to ask if the Festool Belt sander or the Vac Sys would work if i had a 220volt receptacle in my garage in Canada.

He reponded

"The AUS/NZ Festool tools you have listed require 230-240V AC 50/60Hz to operate correctly
Operating these tools at 110V would not be viable, the tools would not operate correctly or simply fail to start"

Im desperate to find out if he's wrong. I read the spec's on the Vac Sys and it states

Power consumption at 50 Hz  160-200 W 
Power consumption at 60 Hz  200-230 W 
Pump capacity at 50 Hz  2,7 m³/h 
Pump capacity at 60 Hz  3,5 m³/h 
Minimum vacuum  ? 81%/ ? 810 mbar 
Weight  8 kg

Does this mean i could get at least the Vac Sys to work with the correct plug fitted on our power set-up 220 volts at 60 hrtz?

Call Festool USA and speak to Lester. I had the very same conversation with him. Basically it will work. Don't worry about the frequency.

[smile] That's an answer I've become used of the Festool service department, only looking at the word Canada, completely overlooking the fact that you mention you have a 220 volt receptacle.

If your receptacle is capable of delivering 220V @ 60Hz you can run any tool that's spec'ed for 230-240V AC @ 50/60Hz

Even if you don't have a 220 volt receptacle, you could use a power converter to convert 110 volt to 220, easy as pie.

I would actually side with Festool on this one... as I am not sure what a "220v receptacle" implies.. I can take a guess that you mean you have a 110->220V step-up transfomer.. but could also mean you just have a 220V style plug (receptacle).. in any event like Alex said, should work fine, mains voltage in the UK in any event isn't that clean that 10v makes a difference.. or a few Hz!

Long time member but not posted in a while. I brought all my uk power tools Inc a lot of festool stuff with me to Canada three years ago. I run them all fine in my shop using 220v and when I am out installing I take a 3kw transformer with me. No noticeable change in performance at all. HTH.

I have a Precisio CS70 from the UK and it runs just fine on our 220, which echoes what Tim wrote. If you are willing to deal with dual voltage issues there is no reason for concern regarding frequencies. Universal motors don't care.

Now i need to save to buy me some new tools. Festools are almost double the price of what we pay here in Canada [eek]
