Festool Price Increase

There were some grumblings on here recently along the lines of buy your Festool goodies in January and February......

They didn't increase prices last year, so I'm sure it's coming this year.  I got a wink when I purchased a bunch of Festool this month.  It's coming, the question is just how bad it's going to be. ???

I was told by a Festool dealer (the owner) yesterday, that a new Festool catalog was coming in March with price increases.
That was all I was told. I did not ask, he volunteered the information & he did not say it was a secret.

True & true.  Dealers have had the new pricing info but aren't allowed to display it or discuss it.  Maybe you could try wining and dining Bob  [big grin].  I don't know how many dinners it'll take.  Probably one a night every night till March 1st.

I don't understand it.  If you are putting things on sale, and selling things you hadn't in the past (e.g. reconditioned tools) then you are trying to jump start sales or get rid of inventory.  Raising prices seems to be in conflict with these goals.  These tools are expensive enough as it is, and pretty tough to justify at that.

Kodi, this is strictly the word from the underground or rumor, but Festool hasn't raised their prices in a while and they're feeling the effects of the economy as well.  They have increased costs and need to pass it on to the customer in order to keep a certain profit margin.  They have a bunch of new tools they're introducing to North America this year so that's why the new catalog.  We as customers are always going to be unhappy when our favorite, expensive tool company raises its prices.  I know others from Europe have posted the cost for certain tools on here and they cost quite a bit more than what we pay, so maybe we don't realize just how good we've got it.  Don't get me wrong, I'm all for keeping the prices down, but I understand what it means to be in business and do more than just stay afloat.  Think about this.  If you don't buy the item, the company has 2 choices.  Either lower the price to meet the demand or pull it.

Hope this helps a little.

Ken - I understood the logic behind what you presented.  Some of Festool's business philosophies don't make sense to Americans like me.  (I understand this philosophy may be common to Germany).  Anyway,  the way I see it is we have a company that absolutely forbids discounting, and forbids selling reconditioned tools.  However, they've offered 2 sales on select new tools this year, and now are selling some reconditioned tools.

Perhaps there is a very large inventory they are trying to get rid of.  But what helped to create such a backlog of inventory?  More supply than demand.  People found their little green pieces of paper more desirable than green and black/blue tools at the price they were offered at.  Raising the price doesn't spur purchasing, unless people find the tools so exclusive that this in itself becomes a sales strategy.  The Tiffany's of tools.

I know this is all pointless, so I'm done typing.

Kodi,

Not true, Festool "forbids" discounting by individual dealers, but up until a few years back, Festool used to offer a 3 tool/10% and 5 tool/15% discount and when a new tool was offered, it was offered at a reduced "Introductory Price" for the first month or two.
Also, up until a few years ago , Festool had a 3 tier demo/refurbished tool program.

Ah, the good ole days before I discovered Festool  [crying].  I've purchased just about everything I want, so I no longer have 5 tools on my wish list.  Even it these magnificent deals came back, I couldn't take advantage of them.

I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the price increase is not too large!

In the Uk some festool tools have gone down in price! Just thought rub it in! lol   The CXS gone down £3 and TS55 has and some others! Even though the Vat has gone up by 2.5 this year!

*sigh*
That's not good news, I plan on adding lots of Festools in the next year or two. [sad]

I just received a sale flyer from Rockler that said to buy Festool now to beat the March 1st price increase.

Yeah, I saw that too.  :(

Now just have to figure out how bad it's going to be.

If you think Festools are too expensive you don't have to buy them. So far I've had no one twisting my arms forcing me to buy any! Whether you are a professional or not, you may pay more for a tool because it probably works better, although not always the case. I don't have a bevy of Festools unfortunately, but i will be adding some as time goes. There are plenty of companies that produce a very wide array of tools at sometimes much cheaper prices.  (happy shopping) I for one prefer to spend extra when I can afford them to get a quality tool then to spend money over and over to replace a failing or broken tool. I believe this forum is to give out info about mainly Festool so we can help each other with our purchases and to learn more on how to use them. Don't bash Festool because they cost more, they cost more for a reason (maybe QUALITY ???)  I apologize for my bashing of a different company earlier only because I've had such bad luck with them, I havn't heard of such with Festool.  Just expressing my thoughts and in no way giving anyone a hard time expressing there's. I wouldn't mind owning a Mercedes or a BMW, but I can't afford one, that doesn't mean I"m gonna bash them because they are more expensive.  Wheeew

Any inkling how much the price increases will be?  I'm planning on a CT36 and a Rotex, but now is not the most convenient time for me to buy.
