I need to make a 45 degree cut in 2" cherry on a soft curve (3" over 8'). Is the Festool PSB 300 EQ the right jigsaw for the job with no deflection in the blade? If so, is there a specific blade I should look for to achieve a smooth cut?
If minimizing deflection is more important then you want an FSG blade because they are the most stiff. Either S 105/4 FSG or the S 145/4 FSG. If smoothest cut is more important then S 105/4.
According to my math either the 105 or 145 mm length will work and according to Festool's blade selector these are the only three Festool wood cutting blades long enough to make a 45 degree diagonal cut in 2" material (2.83" diag). So your choices are quite simplified! I would try the longer FSG blade first.
A cool jigsaw trick is to cut with the saw upside down(cut from the bottom of the board). This allows better visibility of the blade on the curve and minimizes splintering on the top.
Thank you Jbird. I have been racking my brain on the best way to cut the bowed front. Your confirmation the jigsaw is appropriate, recommendation of blade and trick to cutting upside down is greatly appreciated.
