A few months ago I had reached out to the members of FOG looking for some advice on Festool tool's and what would work best for my situation. Many of you all provided helpful and reasonable advice. I decided to wait until the holidays as I needed many additional items to get my small shop up and running. Then, I saw the post about the upcoming Recon website that Festool was launching, and immediately began to keep an eye out for the TS55. The saw came up for sale and quickly purchased. Pretty excited in that moment to get my first Festool, but everything since that point has been a disappointment.
The saw arrived quickly, which was nice. However, the saw and all the material inside the systainer were covered in a fine dust - not a big deal at all, and more than willing to overlook due to the savings but still was surprised. The plastic mold in the bottom of the systainer was cracked and broken - once again not a big deal in and of itself. The first main problem, the guide rail was not included. I emailed Festool Recon and they quickly got a rail out to me and apologized for the error. No problem. Once I received the rail, I decided to fire up the saw and see how it ran and get an overall feel for it. I was very surprised to hear a rhythmic grinding noise that certainly did not sound proper. I have never used this saw before, so I wasn't sure if this was what I should expect or not. The guys at my local Woodcraft told me to being it in and they would have as listed, as they happen to have that same model saw on the floor as a demo model.
After getting it setup, it took them moments to realize that something was not right with the saw. It became very apparent to me as well once they started up their demo saw in the same model. Not even close to as smooth of a sound when running to the saw I received. The demo TS55 just whirred, while mine appears to grind. Obviously, I was pretty disappointed in the entire experience so far.
I went ahead and emailed Festool, prior to coming on here, but have not heard any reply. I totally get that this was a reconditioned tool and that I should expect it to come with some scratches and used a bit, but did I have too lofty expectations from a $500 saw that someone might wipe it down prior to shipping? That they might make sure all items look good in the systainer and that all items are included with the shipment? I had no problem looking past all of these issues, but when the saw does not even run well along with all the other issues? It is just such a bummer. I had hopes of getting the Rotex sander and one of their small vacs to get my small shop up and running with a good base of tools, but I am so disappointed in this experience I am not sure what to do. I work in online retail so I certainly do not want to be "that guy", but I fail to see how savings of 25% should warrant an experience like this. Sorry for the long-winded post, but I wanted to vent somewhere else than just my wife. Hopefully, Festool can help me out with these issues.
TL/DR: Purchased TS55 REQ from Recon Website. Guide rail not included, systainer mold cracked/broken and the saw does not run well. Disappointing experience to say the least.
