Festool REQ vs REBQ, what do all the names correspond to?

Dear Festoolers,

I'm pretty confused with the naming of the TS 55 tracksaw.  I've seen REQ and REBQ with serial numbers 575388 and 575387, respectively.  What's the difference?

I'm looking for the newest model of the TS 55 tracksaw but really don't even know what the newest model is anymore.  Is the newest model worth going to or should I look for an older model? If so, what's the name of the older one?

Thanks,
Matt

If you are in North America the -REQ is the latest model.  The -REBQ is not offered here.  I believe (and am certain I will corrected by our friends on the other side of the “pond” if I am not) the the “B” is a model with a brake.

All of the TS 55 saws that I mention are REQ models.

575388 = Imperial TS 55 + Systainer + 1400 Rail.      Available in 2018
575387 = Imperial TS 55 + Systainer                        Available in 2018

574683 = Imperial TS 55 + Systainer + 1400 Rail.      Available in late 2016

561556 = Metric TS 55 + Systainer + 1400 Rail          Available until late 2016

There is also -F,  I think that change was around fixing the defective tilt design of the non -F.  I forgot about this when I bought mine and have a non-F  [mad]

Yeah, that's another thing I e noticed. The presence of the f vs the non f.

Others may have more details, but basically non F's had I believe new for that generation tilt mechanism that gave the saw ability to do -1 degree tilt. But it was terribly implemented and had no support/latch at the front. Basically when you latch the saw to be at Zero degrees (normal usage), the blade will be tilted. Really poor design for a feature that based on a thread on it, no one uses.  So an "F" model was slipped in where they changed a few parts to fix it. I would avoid buying a non-F model. You can eventually get is adjusted right-ish, but still. I forgot this when I bought mine, as I bought it reconditioned so I could get a metric model.

If your buying new, your good to go, unless your in North America and want a metric saw, then you are in the same bind.  I'm not sure Festool does anything to make clear what your buying (if metric or inch), so buying the tools used it can be a really issue trying to understand what the person is selling.  If someone says they have a TS55 REQ-F , you won't know if it's inch or metric based on that.

Long time reader, first time poster, but thought as a German I might be of help here [wink]

TS = Plunge Saw (TS as in "TauchSäge")
C = Cordless
R = Narrow housing (R as in "Randnah")
E = Electronic (always comes with the Brake)
B = Brake
Q = Plug It
F = The -1° release button (Problem doesn't exist with the older EBQ's as they simply didn't have the -1°/+47° option - put a tiny piece of offcut under your rail to get the same result)

Hope that helps!

I doubt if the F is really for the fix of the -1° problem. I think the F is just added by Festool to brand the new faster blade design. Isn’t it?

Which models have that angle fix? Does the REBQ have that fix already?

I am trying to find out which version brings me most value. Don’t think I need the newest FEBQ, but would like to have an R version and the angle fix.

Any advice? Many thanks, much appreciated!

Mark
