So, the bottom of the Kapex clamp popped off when I lifted the clamp up and out came the metal shaft too. When I guessed at how to put it back together it worked 50%.
Fortunately the Roadshow was in Rhode Island the next day, so I hit up Festool's demonstrator Alan Kensley to show me how to fix it. He grabbed a clamp from a nearby Kapex, completely disassembled it, and showed me not only how to put it back together but also pointed out where I had probably gone wrong. Back home it took just minutes to get it back to working perfectly.
