A bit of confusion, every retailer has either posted no expected date of delivery or dates that range from from March to August of 2022 for this router.  So I contacted Festool and this was the response :

“ Thank you for contacting Festool. The OF1400 is back ordered for a long period of time. At this time the estimated time of restocking to Dealers seems to be late October.”

I am confused as to why the retailers stating different delivery dates?  Shouldn’t there be consistent communication to the customer base? Additionally, I’m really surprised that it will take that long to manufacture and deliver routers even during these times.  I have noticed a trend that many companies are telling customers delivery dates that are much longer then they actually expect.  I guess that’s a bit of under promise over deliver philosophy. Not sure if this is the case with Festool or not. I was really hoping to get one soon.

Welcome to FOG :)

There is a good possibility that a small local store that doesn't sell on the internet has one in stock. Would be worth it to look for the local hardware stores.

Peter, I did go online and found local dealers and by gosh I found one!  Thank you for the great idea, I really appreciate it.

I swear every time I go into my local Woodcraft they have all these hard to get items listed on a whiteboard. Last time it was 1400 and a Domino 500.

[member=77571]NYWW[/member] glad you found one.  It’s a great router for many tasks.  I have had one for 7-8 years and have gotten lots of use out of it.  I think you will be very happy!  Enjoy

Hi Peter!  Another new user here, I was looking for one of these too, and I followed your suggestion.  I found a local dealer that had 3 in stock just yesterday.  Thank you very much!

Just wanted to say I registered to this site and replied here to say I followed the sage advice and found a local dealer who, although they initially thought they were out of stock, found one on their shelf. I'm hoping to pick it up tomorrow afternoon, will report back with success/failure.

It was literally the first business I called. I'm going to be going back to them in the future over online or Woodcraft to help support the local dealer with these hefty Festool buys!

If it's anything like this side of the pond, Festool has quietly updated the OF 1400 without changing the model number. There's a new piece of legislation that doesn't allow a tool such as a router to start up again automatically in the event of losing power. There have been some subtle changes to the electronics to make sure this doesn't happen which I would guess is coincidentally why the CMS options have disappeared too - the remote switches would no longer be effective.

Given this, it might explain why the "old" revision might still be available in limited quantities with a few retailers but why the "new" revision is backordered.

I'm not saying this is the case as I don't have an inside source, but just passing on the information I do know.

100% agree with supporting local dealerships and small businesses. I buy 90% of all my timber stock (and it’s quite a lot) from a small local yard. They know the names of almost every customer who walks in, and they actively nurture long-term relationships with local tradesmen. Result - most guys around here won’t go anywhere else. Just a joy to deal with.

Just wanted to post an update - I did get my hands on an OF-1400 via a small regional chain. Worked out great. Excited to use it on an upcoming project.

The moral of the story is keep your local business around by purchasing from them whenever possible :)

Glad those that wanted routers were able to find them. Make sure to buy your accessories from said local store too as that is where their profits are at, in order to stick around for the next time you need a hard to find item. Same price as buying online in the USA as prices are fixed.
