Hey guys,

I thought a while back I heard that Festool was going to start selling the Kapex in April in the overseas market.  Has anyone heard any good rumors about the tool yet?

Matt

Here in the Netherlands, it will supposedly be available in the second half of May.

I saw a demonstration last saturday, and it's a very impressive machine. The sawing capacity is a lot larger than I expected. I was dubious about the laser lines, as these are usually no more than thick blobs of red light. On the Kapex however, they are razor sharp and actually useful. Dust collection was adequate (With a CT22), but not perfect. The machine was larger than I expected. It has a lot of buttons, knobs and levers to operate things, but I guess that you will get used to these quickly when using the machine. Noise level was very acceptable. Operation felt very smooth, no wobbles or anything.

Now all I have to do is think of a job around the house that I absolutely need this thing for, and convince my wife....

Thanks - I can't wait until we get to that point on this side of the pond...

You know, I actually have the "perfect" job at the house waiting on its availability...  I am getting ready to start a Coffered ceiling out of Cherry...  Since the ceiling height is not that high, the actual mitered corners will be close enough to discern any imperfections with the naked eye...  I decided to hold off on that project until the Kapex is available.  It makes it easier to justify the purchase of the tool if you have a "perfect" job in mind...

The more I see the Kapex the more I want....I mean need one  ;) No really, if this thing really dose have good dust control, I'll sell my 1214 in a hartbeat. I'm a trim carpenter, so I do have a need for it.

I am not 100% sure, but I don't think the Kapex will be here in the USA this year.

Yesterday, I had a look at the Festool Kapex at a woodworking show (in Austria). I didn't pay much attention to dust collection but all I can say that I was deeply impressed of this saw. It's a beauty that offers all the features I've been dreaming of.
According to Festool the demand for the Kapex is much higher than Festool expected. Apart from possible UL issues (I have no information on this subject), the consequence of the high demand in Europe might be that Festool probably needs some more time to build up a stock of Kapex saws for the American market.

Regards,

Christian

PS: Is anyone interested in buying a slightly used Makita LS 1013 SCMS?

Last week I was at my local dealer and quizzed him on the release date for the Kapex. He smiled at me and replied, "Sure would be nice to find one under the Christmas tree, wouldn't it?" He had also told me Fes was gonna try and keep the price around $1000. I trust his feedback since he is one of the original Festo dealers. So who knows? I'm getting very anxious though.

I think Christian is right, I'm not worried about UL approval, however the demand worldwide will be the issue for us in the US, I hope by next year to have one (fingers crossed).

Christian, in you get to test drive one, let us know.

I plan to ask at "my" woodworking store if I could return my LS 1013 and upgrade to a Kapex. So maybe I will become a Kapex owner this year.

Christian,
Go ahead, rub it in...you get to have a Kapex and we only get to read about it!
Seriously, if you get a Kapex, please post some photos of it here.

Does anyone think we should actually think about moving to Europe so we can get new Festools faster?

If you don't mind paying more for them - why not? ::)

There are a host of wonderful things about living in Europe, but low prices are not one of them.  That said, I'd absolutely love the opportunity to live in Germany for a few (5-10) years.  Still I think that in the long run, the US is hard to beat.
