Does anyone have any ideas of using extra festool sys port drawers in a home made sys port? The drawers are not the same as the sys-az drawers as they use the mechanism in the back of the drawer to attach to the rod in back of a standard sys port. In addition, one would have to drill holes in the slides to attach them to a wooden cabinet. Thanks for your help.

This doesn't answer your question but gives you an alternative to consider.

Sys-Carts
One of the best Festool decisions I've made.
I have three of them and I group the systainers on them by type.
I can park them anyplace and wheel them to where the work is.
I use fixed permanent cabinets for other tools.
I love being able to set the power tool on top of the cart stack. TS55 Domino or OF1400. Boom. I have extra counter space where I'm working and I don't have to walk across the garage for an attachment.

Did I mention I Love my Sys-Carts???

[member=61817]jk92147[/member]  I have a Festool Sysport and several sys ports that I built with the Sys-AZ drawers.  I personally prefer the Sys-AZ drawers.  Easier to open and close and they have a full bottom - so you can use them as drawers even if there is no Systainer in them.  And you can open more than one Sys-AZ drawer in a cabinet but you cannot with the Sysport.

A problem I frequently have with my metal Sysport is that I have to reach in and reset the rear bar because a drawer won't close.

And the Sys-AZ units are cheaper.

If you have extra Sysport drawers, you could certainly make a cabinet to house them and screw them in.  But if you are starting from scratch, I think the Sys-AZ drawers are the better choice.

I do have a  Sys-Cart that I have a stack of systainers on, and [member=28483]iamnothim[/member] is right that they are a low cost mobile way to organize your stuff.

Thanks for your suggestions. Sys-carts may be the way to go. It is a shame to waste the sys port drawers. With the back of each drawer made to attach to rod at back of sys port, it would probably not make sense to use them to make a shop made sys port.

Have a look at erock's you tube video for his Poplar Shop YouTube channel. He builds a pile of them and provides the dimensions to everybody.

For my workshop build I am planning to use 450mm wide kitchen cabinet flat packs and build drawers for each one. That way I can set up a custom configuration. Watch this space.  [big grin]
