Slightly  [off topic]  Whats with the windmill thing ?

Just curious  [smile]

Hi Axminster do various classes I have thought about attending, although never have.but they are festool dealers and have the inferstructure

Hi Woodguy,

Nothing deep and dark about the screen name. If you look to the left you will see a picture of a windmill. thats the view from my front room. That was the inspiration, thought it was a bit better than" wood butcher" [smile] or black thumb [laughing]

Unfortunately, he left them a few months ago. I went to another local dealer when I was looking to get my Domino, but the Festool guy in there seemed completely useless & not very helpful, and I haven't been back in since.

This has been my experience also the last time i saw a Festool DEMO day was at Sandown park tool show last November I think, the guys were really un-helpful and also didnt seem to know what they were doing. I know it must be hard to get good people as anyone who is good at carpentry would probably be out there doing carpentry rather than demonstrating tools.

I would be interested in trying out new Festool tools and maybe I would pick up a few tips but in my above post my main concern was that I would go to one of these training courses and just learn things that I already know and that would be a waste of time. Maybe they could do courses for different levels of ability or something like that.

PS maybe they could do what Bosch are doing, I was looking at their website the other day and spotted that you can sign up to test their tools out. I put my name down for the new Bosch jigsaw just gotta wait and see what happens.

I agree Joiner the courses would have to be geared to the skill level of the guy attending. Can`t see them doing trials of tools but they need to start doing something as i believe they are having a less than average sales year like a lot of companies.

I'd just like to point out that the guy I was referring to was the guy employed by the dealer, not the Festool rep.

A few years ago I applied for a job with Festool UK as sales rep for the North East area. Unfortunately for me, at the time it was more important for them to get someone with a tool sales background, rather than a tool user.

Jonny, their loss i would say.

Windmill man, what an awesome view  [big grin]

Woodguy.

I'm a festool and a felder fan.  I really wish the latter offered some training- I rely heavily on the other FOG for help there.  I'd be very pleased to get any sort of training from Festool - and would be happy to come over from France if the cost wasn't too high.  I earn a reasonable living as a carpenter but am well aware that I usualy make it up as I go along.  I need to get an edgebander - anyone want to offer me a correspondence crash course :)

Hi Woodguy,
Not  a bad view looks different every morning, depending whats going on in the estuary. Have a good pic of the staff and the windmill...

Within twenty minutes of posting that remark both Forrest and Peter had PM ed me to offer to sort it out. Sent the pic to Forrest and he is going to post it.The pic is a bit tongue in cheek but it has Festool links. Thanks to both Forrest and Peter.

Forrest is your man to sort out pictures  [big grin]

Yup! If anyone has problems posting pictures (for example you're having problems re-sizing them), then just send me a PM and I'll give you an e-mail address to send the pics to. I'll then post the pictures for you.

There's also Peter's video called "How Do I Insert Photos into a Post" that is well worth watching, and there's even a whole discussion board called Gallery & Attaching Images where you can read or post messages about attaching images.

Quality, love the picture.  I had a couple of members of staff that was as energetic as those 2 a year ago  [big grin]

great idea

I'd certainly like to attend a training day -  a weekend would substantially improve the odds of my being able to attend
Festool UK is about 90 miles & that's about the limit of practical

Happy to pay a moderate amount (somewhat less than ?100?) to cover costs
I am delighted with Festool - but they are not cheap & I feel for the free marketing (many of us do) they need to recognise the benefits they get out of this relationship

John,

There is an open day at Healy's today if that is any help, the festooll rep is allways there to answer questions.

Paul

Thanks,
John G and CNC Paul,

Up to know I have had a positive feed back on this and there is a need for it. I will push it forward to My Festool rep.

Thanks again John

Yes please keep me posted and keep up the good work. Your dogs seem to be enjoying the view Great pic

John, this is a great idea and one,I would guess, would be particularly useful to those of us who earn a living using our tools.
We all know how many 'new and interesting' ways we find to abuse use our tools ;D
It would be beneficial to get hands on practical advice of the Festool system etc.
A meeting of like minds often brings forth new ideas and techniques we could all learn from. I 'd be interested in a training day.
Rob.

Yes I'd forgotten, I'd planned on vistiting to ask about drills anyway
I have a problem drilling some pilot holes and bolting into an RSJ for a wardrobe I'm building - my Makita has pretty much given up the ghost on it & the big power drill seemed to skid & burn more than cut.

So the timing was excellent - got to ask about the torque on the new C series and revised T series, as ever the demos were good.  In the end the deciding factor was no delivery dates for the C series.

Got the job done with the T series I bought pretty impressed...

I think there's a difference between asking questions and getting good training - it's years decades since I had any & I'm adapting a lot of things - most are probablty fine, but I pick up a fair amount here, so I guess a days Festool specific training would be really handy
