Festool User Training in Australia

This thread is really pointed towards our friends and members down under.  On facebook I saw that Festool Australia is considering end user training classes like those introduced here in the US back in 2009. They are looking for input from Australian Festool Users and have put out a survey.

I think this needs to be framed in a "why do you use Festools?" context. For a tradesman there's positive business benefit in learning better skills .. for a home woodworker it's just another opportunity for them to promote and sell more Festools !

My problem with the survey is that you could not tick more than one workshop topic. I did not see the Introduction to Festool tools for DIY of any real benefit to me, but wanted to tick both the Finishing and Router training.

The cost right now for a 2-day class is $350, but that amount may include items that might not be included in other programs elsewhere.  Here it includes transportation from the preferred hotel each day, lunch, snacks, and dinner the first day.  The class sizes are small - typically about 6 people.  In other words, in the training class world these are not money makers.  Sure, do they help fill the trainers' schedules during typically slow times.  They also provide interaction with the end users.

The classes I have attended have been a mix of professionals and hobbyists.  Was there a heavy marketing effort?  No.  Will the classes naturally enthuse those who attend?  Yes.  Might they purchase additional tools that they experience first hand?  Maybe.  The mix of attendees definitely helps the classes flow because both groups bring something to the table especially during breaks, lunches, and time away from the formal classes.  Just like this forum.

Getting a chance to spend two days with a Festool trained trainer in a small class size situation is fairly unique, and I always highly recommend it.

I was a bit bummed that they expect you to pay, I have spent at least 12k on festool tools for my business. I would like to think that they would shout me a free training course. At least Kev and I are lucky as we have been helping our local festool dealer do training nights we are up to number 3, they all have been great and catered for with no cost to the attendees

Kev, I am a hobbyist, but would value the opportunity to learn first hand from an experienced Festool trainer, over 2 days. I am sure there would be some marketing of the product, but I am more interested in learning how to use what I have, more effectively, and fully exploiting the benefits of the Festool system. I am pretty comfortable that I already exploit the system now, but I am sure I have only scratched the surface. Besides, I KNOW I need an LR32 set, and a CMS with OF1400 and TS55 modules, and one of the new vibration isolated hammer drills... and... and...

Untidy shop - yes I was frustrated with the restriction on survey choices too!

Come on guys how about being a bit more positive,I am glad they are at least trying to put something together based on some user input rather than putting out a schedue that no one is interested in.

And guys, there are some great restaurants in Melbourne,the shopping is good if you want to take your significant other along and how about a training course in January,stay at the Crown and fit in a day the Australian open as well.

Sounds all good to me and if i learn something as well all the better!

I'm in Melbourne often lately with work .. and typically sleeping and eating at Crown Towers [sad]

Plus the thought of taking my better half to Melbourne shopping would have me distracted and probably cutting off limbs! [scared]

Hey Kev,
I only got back on the tools about 6 or 7 years ago after driving a big desk in the corner office and i know first hand travel does lose it lustre when it is constant and totally related to work but i always enjoyed Melb, the morning jog along the Yarra and wandering the city looking for new places to eat, so i am up for courses there however i am sure i would enjoy it even more if that corporate credit card was still in the wallet.

Seriously though i dont earn half what i used to but i cant say it is a regret - travel with the wife and some tool shopping or education beats the hell out of turn arounds and buy outs --- Bring on the courses i say!

Hey just had another idea what about a small group trip to the US for some training and the chance to pick up some gear not available down under ,might be a hard sell with the bride but i am willing to risk it!!!

I've got nothing against Melbourne , I'm just jealous it's not going to be in sydney, as for a trip to the USA that would be awesome think of all the stuff we could get cheaper. We should take some stuff to them to, I'm sure we have a lot of stuff they would like

Well we couldnt go to the same place each year so Germany would make the cut for a ideal location combining tools and travel,all those sausages and big mugs of beer i cant see much wrong with this idea,although i draw the line at leather shorts!!

Instead of "Carnival" we'd have "Festi-Val".
