hey guys,

has anyone connected a festool shop vac to any kind of ridged pipe?  Heres what im trying to do, i spray alot of cabinetry, and i of course sand in between coats, with the festool sander and the small festool vac.  what i want to do is locate the vac unit outside the spray area and just keep the sander and festool hose in the spray "booth"  im looking to see if i can connect the vac to plastic pipe though the wall and plug the hose in to the other end in the shop saving floor space and keeping my vac less dusty...

and ideas.. standard abs pipe does not fit...

help and thanks

Similar idea from Peter Parfitt. His vac is around a corner, delete the "dust hub" portion, but he used some plastic tubing to extend the reach of the vac to another area of the shop...

Been done and posted about many times on this forum. People rig up all kinds of ducts in their workshops.

There are many types of pipes available in many diameters, look around in stores and online to find something suitable. And it's always possible to adjust diameters with rubber gaskets and duct tape. Hardest part is finding the stuff.

Don't make the pipes too long though, or suction will drop below an acceptable level.

If the plastic pipe can be as short as about 4" then a regular D50 hose to hose connector will work. But you would need a hose with a D50 (vac end) hose fitting on both ends to be used for the hose on the outside. 493047 for the Festool Anti Static connector and 452892 / 452894 / 452896 for the additional hose end depending on the hose diameter.

Seems the simplest solution would be to get two festool hose sleeves and connect them with a flexible PVC coupler used most commonly for plumbing.  Some do use them for adapting to their dust collector in wood working.

Then the vacuum would be outside with its hose (or a stubby hose) plugged into the outside hose sleeve and another hose (connected to the sander) could be plugged into the inside sleeve.

Maybe total cost of $60 since the Festool couplers are, themselves, ~$20.
