A question was posed in another thread but putting on my Moderator hat here I thought that I would ask a question here for Festool USA to hopefully answer.  For readers outside of North America any answer to my specific question might not align with your region.

The question:  My tool is returned during the warranty period and it is discovered that the motor has failed.  What is the warranty regarding a.  the repair, and b.  the tool as a whole  going forward beyond the repair.

PLEASE NOTE:  This is a question for Festool to answer.  OTHER POSTS IN THIS THREAD PRIOR TO A FESTOOL USA RESPONSE WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE>

The answer is that the tool warranty is three years from the date of purchase, regardless of any warranty work that has been done. If you have warranty work done, any parts would also be covered for the remainder of the original three year period or 6 months, which ever is longer.

So...

a) 6 months, or the remainder of the original three year period  from date of purchase
b) the remainder of the original three year period from date of purchase

That's pretty poor. In theory someone puts their Kapex in for repair because of a blown motor say 2 years and 11 months into the warranty. 2 months later the new motor packs in (this has been reported in the other thread that motors have lasted as little as 2 months) and there's no recourse?

Maybe this is a NA thing, but I'm pretty sure in the UK replacement parts must carry some form of minimum warranty separate of the overall status of the original warranty, depending on which is longer, to avoid the situation described above.

Apologies, I need to revise my statement.

The replacement part(s) would have a 6-month warranty from the date of install.

I will update my previous post.

Ah, now that sounds far more sensible!

Shane that cannot be correct can it ? so if a 2 month old kapex motor failed the new part would only be warranted for a further 6 months?

Re-read the original post I edited... I said 6 months or until the end of the 3 years, whichever is longer.
