Festool your boring

I’m having a hard time thinking of something Festool needs to make so I can buy it. Most of my tool purchases the last 2 years have been cordless tools that replace seldom used  corded versions. For those I turned to Makita and Milwaukee. I wouldn’t want to pay the Festool premium for a leaf blower or caulking gun. Makita had some crazy good cordless promotions end of 2017.

I havent needed to buy any festools for a while now.

There 2 that I want but just cant fit in the budget.

The Vac system and the Conturo.

Maybe this year Ill get the Contouro if the timeing is right and they have a refurb one available.

I do a lot of edge banding.

If things work out that is.

But right now I have everything I need a complete FT shop, other than things festool dont make as a thicknesser and 6" jointer

but the TS55 in some cases does a better job at jointing then the 6" jointer I own.

Am I only the one who sees new releases as mostly boring

The seem to offer a handful of drills that are definitely boring and some routers that can sometimes be boring.

But it seems to me the majority of tools are for cutting, joining and sanding and dust extraction.

There's still a number of NAINA Festools that I would love to see get introduced over here.  Not sure if they've done the market research and decided that there's insufficient demand, or if there are issues with UL certification, but I wouldn't hesitate to get the Belt Sander, the Rustofix, or the DSC if they were available.

That might be a major reason. It probably wouldn't be issues with passing it, it would probably be the cost of it. You have to figure that they need to make a profit that includes paying bare min $20k for the year to just UL cert. It's probably way higher than that for them. The only reason I say $20k is because as an electronics person that is the highway robbery I would be expected to shell out for a small product. It's just literally impossible for many, many companies. Luckily UL isn't a law or anything like that, it's just a legal shield. The problem is a lot of distributors won't carry stuff without UL approval. And there are like maybe 10 counties in the US where you can't sell non-UL stuff.

Does your pulse race faster over a new vacuum cleaner?

Actually YES...my wife, not myself. She has this thing for Miele vacuums ❤️. We already have 2 of them and she now wants to purchase a third one.  [eek]  She always uses the excuse that because we have 2 dogs and 3 cats that shed a lot, we need a new vacuum to cope.  [crying]

Same problem in my house!!!

We now have a canister version and an upright.  They are a superior vacuum however, and by coincidence, also from Germany

But tools?  Honestly folks, some of you need to get out more.

Ha! Maybe some of us need to use our tools more? When you use tools almost every day of your working life, for many years.... I don't understand how you can't find enjoyment in a good quality tool that's a pleasure to use...
But hey - let's just hand out on the forum and spend our time making judgments on how other people feel about their tools. That's what being a carpenter is really about right? [eek] [dead horse]

Oh... Err... that concise link to the other manufacturers information clears it up totally... Ahem...

Don't forget Makita's dust collector is cordless too!

To make use of the Makita cordless tool/vac link you have to buy new tools. I think with the Festool cordless stuff you just have to buy a smart battery?

I don’t care if Festool is boring.  I don’t think the prices should be hiked at this time.  All of R&D is paid for a long time ago.  They have great margins at the existing prices.

There was no real legit reason for Festool to hike prices on existing tools.

It's ok, there's a fancy pants vac dealer down the block from my office.
I eat brush rollers up like they grow on trees, and thus, I will
spend a good hour a month, waxing poetic about Sebo and Miehle.

For a good laugh, everyone across the pond should take a look at what we pay for
SEBO  in the USA.  [cool]
Actually, Miele is just as bad.

Actually some people (men presumably) do get a little over-excited about vacuum cleaners.  Despite having all the signs of urban mythology, A&E departments quite frequently encounter the aftermath of men's amorous encounters with vacuums: being "stuck", phallic lacerations, contusions & other trauma.

Nurses are not held to the same Hippocratic constraints as other Medical professionals, and can therefore tell all.  The incidence is not as uncommon as one may suspect.  My wife has had at least 2 encounters with victims, and quite a few rather embarrassed, uncommunicative, red-faced "suspects" in her career.
