Few Missing Screws

In the hotel room they have the usual wardrobe 2-door cabinet to hang your clothes.

Over a 3-night stay, we open and close the wardrobe doors to access our clothes in the mornings and evenings.

Upon opening the cabinet door, I heard a clatter. Was it my imagination

A screw had gotten loose

But how did this screw provide any fastening of the hinges, I wondered

Took a look at three sets of hinges on the doors. Each was in a sorry state

Missing screws, empty holes in the particle board, and skewed hinge plates.

On our next visit to the lobby, we told them of the necessity to fix it right.

They sent someone up with me to take a photo. The person said, “I don’t know how to fix this”.

I pretended to be a professional and urged them to get it done correctly.

However, with the language difference, it was too hard to convey the principle of “pay me now, or pay me later”.

Even today upon checkout, I had to resist asking for a few simple tools and the right screws.

It just pains me to let the easy things get worse over time.

Wife said to me “I know what you are thinking, and you have good intentions. It’s not our problem to solve”.

My mind was too overcome with “OMG just one fastener per hinge” to clearly think about any other possibility for that fallen screw.

My wife often finds it amusing that every time we stay in a rental holiday home there is always something for me to fix. It's usually water hoses to domestic appliances being loose or vacuum cleaners with bricked bags and filters that need a good wash out. Had a washing machine door come off once. I've got quite good a fixing stuff with a swiss army knife, or leatherman!

There was a barn door style door into the bathroom. Hard to move because the track was pulling out of the wall.
I left a note on top of the track, pointing out the obvious.
I later wondered how many more guests would see the note before somebody from the hotel actually did something about it.

I never understood the appeal of sliding barn style doors inside houses. Pocket doors I appreciate but having to leave a wall blank just to open a door, in addition to the clunky appearance, no thanks.

We have a member who specialized in these doors and frequently posted them here as they were finished and installed. As time went on they got more sophisticated but we haven’t had one of his posts in a good while.

Clearly, the guy who should be fixing it, and the guy who did it in the first place, are in the same boat. They don't have a clue what they are doing.
You can't tell, from that single close up, but it was either put too high on the carcass side, or the entire door has dropped. If they are all in there with one screw, the latter seems right.
Often on large wardrobe type doors, they are not mounted well enough from the beginning. Then in general public facing situations, they are abused.
Where I used to work, the cabinet side holes were drilled by the CNC, always properly located. They use the 5mm dowel type screws and assembly is very quick/easy.
