Hi peeps,
I purchased Planex/36ac combo few months back, nice stuff especialy the vac.
Kapex last week, very nice still learning the ins/outs.
Thinking about the ts55 with a couple rails,,,,are the conectors reliable? easy to set up?
Can I use the planex on a pine floor, ( fresh install, no finish). If so what abrasive?
Thanks Joe Dirt

I haven't had a problem with the connectors for the rails, I use a straight edge when I join them together.  After reading a lot of posts, I wish I would have gotten a 75" rail or the 55" holy rail.  If I had the space would have gotten the longer rail to avoid the connectors.

I got the connecters with two small rails (55s) only to later get the 108 rail . Using the two small rails I had problems with ripping plywood and them being a little out . It was noticeable when I was cutting ply for drawer stock .

Look up user Toolnut, he just did a review of the Planex including using it for floors. He might have some further info for you. I'm looking to try it on a small area of oak flooring in a few weeks.

Connectors work well, Obviously the best solution and most accurate would be to get a really long one like the 2200/2450/2700 but there may be storage/transportation limitations. I use two 1400's with the connector and havent really had any issues, Kind of "cludgy" to get connected and move around. I always try and have someone help me move it so i dont strain the connection. When i place them together i leave 1/16" of a space so i can take my framers level and place it along the back edge to make sure its straight and true and then tighten the connectors.

I dont have planex so i cant answer that question. If you get the TS-55 ask if you can upgrade the rail in the package to the LR-32 rail and spend the extra $40 or so. It looks like your growing your festool collection and inevitably will be purchasing a router at some point and your going to want to add the LR-32 system  [tongue]

Yesterday I needed to edge cut some boards to be edge glued for a cabinet top. Used my 55" and 32" rails with connectors. Was very careful when assembling and used a 6 foot level as a straight edge against the back of the rails to get the straightest cut possible. Double checked and made my cuts. Well ---- it didn't work. No way I can edge glue them as the cut is curved. Not the first time I have had issues with joined rails. Ordered a longer rail yesterday.

Normally joined rails work ok for plywood and corner butt joints as a slight curve is easily hidden or causes no issue. For hardwood boards being edge joined, there really is no room for error. So --- get the longest one piece rails needed!! Also, if ordering rails that are also available "holy", pay the slight upgrade price. Some dealers will let you swap out the normal rail with the TS saws for whatever you need for some price adjustment.
