I just bought a CXS kit to replace my older NiCad c12 and for the burlier stuff I have a 14.4 Hilti Hammer/Impact Combo kit. Seems I still need something between the CXS and the Hilti and the only reason I'm going to the CXS is that my older c12 doens't have an LED and the replacement NiCad battery is too heavy. Guess I could do some excercise to offset that but that's another story :-) I've yet to give the CXS a full road test but I think it will do fine as my main cabinet tool and leave the heavy fastening and boring to the Hilti.

Looked at the 12v Bosch's but the angle attachments is what made the Festool the clincher

Thoughts?

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the performance of the CXS as I was when I got to give it a full rundown on a project. And the LED on the drill is a great asset.

As for the weight of the older nicads, maybe you should lay off the extra scoop rice on the plate lunches.  [big grin]

For what it's worth, I have both the CXS and the Bosch 12V.  Power-wise I haven't seen anything that the Bosch can do that the CXS can't.  If you're just looking at power, you should be in good shape with what you have.

The only place where the CXS seems to have limitation is the chuck capacity.  You'll need to use your Hilti (or get something else) to use any standard bits larger than 5/16".  A kit of Brad-Point Centrotec Bits up to 1/2" are available for the CXS.

It sounds like a C12 will be a good option for you.

I agree with Seth, the C12 would be more universal for you. The CXS is nice but lacks some of the umph you might want from an everyday drill. The c12 is a fantastic size too.
