Finally a jig for mft holes by Peter parfitt

If this system used a 5mm drill rather than a 3mm couldn't it be used to make shelf pin holes also?

Looks like a really neat precise method and I'm sure would really appeal to anyone who hasn't got the LR-32 system.

Second vote for 5mm, and make it available through Lee Valley please.  Sorry I'm in the states.

Have you guys seen this ? I use it for making my table tops  even a 4x8 sheet and all the holes are square to each other. By [member=34574]anthonyz[/member]

Just widen the three mm holes? Ok so its one more operation but wouldn't take long.

Cant wait for IT to be available :))

Ups ... seeing here, yesterday I did not have to spend 90 euros for the CNC.

[eek] [tongue] [big grin]

This kit looks a great idea and regards the 5 mm holes. If a brass bush was made to sleeve down from 20 to 5 and that would do the job and the 3mm holes are probably more accurate for the purpose of the original setting out.
Regards Mike.

A suggestion, sell just the drill bit and the guide for people who already have MFT/3's. No need for the rulers, pins or the 3 mm bit. You can just clamp a MFT top to a piece of MDF and drill through the holes. The accuracy of the top and no worries of right angles on the 3 mm bit. Shipping to US would also be much easier. Once a couple of holes are drilled, we can use the long dogs to keep alignment and to make larger sizes.

No need to sell anything to those people. Drill undersized holes freehand, finish using router with pattern bit (place MFT plate on top of the work piece).

Maybe I'm just being lazy, but it seems easier for me
to spend forty quid on eBay for a CNC produced third party MFT top - especially when the jig is three times that cost.  Nice idea for them that can be bothered though, I guess.

[member=41421]Peter[/member] - those are rules, not rulers  [popcorn]

[member=63019]Spiff[/member] - if you're considering using a CNC Router to make a worktop, you can download a choice of different size CAD drawings and DXF files free from our website:https://tsoproducts.com/plans-drawings/

if there is another size we get frequent requests for, we will create that for free download as well. We just revised the drawing pdf's to make them dual dimensioned Metric/Imperial and will put them up this weekend as revision B.
DXF files are unaffected.

I've never seen MFT top that cheap.

Try a CNC shop.

Most CNC shops charge by the minute/hour for running their machines. I was able to get 3 tops out of one 4'x8' sheet. Charged me the minimum of one hour for $65 plus the cost of sheet goods. I got 3 tops for less than the price of 1 Festool Priced top.

And remember you can flip them over so my 3 mft tops turns to 6. I should be good for a long while.

there is a new drill bit for Peters jig available from axminster,it will fit directly into both standard 1/4" hex and centrotec chucks and will solve the 'burr problem' that some people have encountered,it would be nice if the jig shipped with this new bit from now on,perhaps Peter would have some info on this?.

Thanks so much for the link. You are a cyber-ace. It went immediately out of stock but a back-order is allowed. My original bit burred so this is a worthwhile purchase. I also recently got a T18+3 for my landmark (75) birthday and I am anxious to put the new bit through its paces.  I just completed an assembly table with the PG to good advantage.

Again, I want to mention that ordering is a smooth operation with Axminster with an accommodation to reduce the VAT upon ordering. No custom officials at your door demanding tariffs.

If you are a UK based user may I recommend RS CNC Design of Wrexham, Wales.

I live close by so went and met Rick the owner who not only supplied a top for my MFT but designed and cut a custom MFT top while I waited for a workbench I am making. Absolutely the highest quality and as a bonus he supplied two sets of aluminum bench dogs free of charge. The holes are exactly 20mm, spaced as the Festool original and not made out of plywood as the link suggests, but out of top quality 18mm MDF. The only difference twixt the original is about £50!

Smashing bloke who has a wealth of experience in fine cabinetry making and CNC design.

No connection at all, just an absolutely delighted customer.
