Hoping for some advice. About an 80 year old railing for a staircase which i believe is cherry. Took a minwax dark Walnut stain nicely, but owner is averse to any poly in the house. He just refinished the floors with a dye, stain and then wax. Nice look, but he wants a little more sheen for the stair rail. Is surfix heavy duty oil appropriate for this, followed by minwax dark paste wax?  Then buffed out?
Not a lot of hand traffic on the rail, but he does realize it will need maintenance going forward.
What is a good non poly finish for banisters?

Thanks, Alan

The hardwood flooring world offers hardwax oil finishes like Rubio and Pallman Magic Oil. Any of them would work great for your application, and require minimal maintenance.

I like Surfix HD. It will be a lot of hand work due to the shapes.

Wax after 30 days.

Look at Bri-Wax.
