I have a Paslode framing nailer which has served me well over the years..i like everything about it, don't mind periodic cleanings etc.

I'm considering a finish nailer (Paslode) cause I'm already in the Paslode loop..

My needs are mainly baseboard and door trim..mostly Base with a cap.

My concern is with the cap...is a finish nailer too strong for a basic cap? Seems like nailing through the thickest part of the 'round' would be ok?

Also, on the Paslode finish nailers, How consistent is the countersink setting?

Thanks..

I have owned a Paslode Cordless 16ga for 7 years.  It's a great nailer.  It always sets the nails.    I use it for every aspect of interior trim.  I run a lot of 1x6 base with 1 3/8 cap and never had any problems with splitting the wood.  The only issue that I have with cordless Paslodes is cold weather.  The nail guns will not shoot properly until the gas is warm.  I normally keep the gas in my glove box to keep it warm.

The 16gauge impulse is a great nailer. Tyler's right keep your gas warm, or it wont shoot. I have the 18gauge as well those can be a little temperamental. Mine works fine if i don't try to shoot to fast.

I like using the 18GA for shoe molding.  The 16ga will split out oak when working with smaller pieces or ends.  I own the 16GA and my coworker owns the 16ga angled and the 18ga.  The angle version is nice when hanging crown especially in the corners.  The negative with the angle 16ga is the price of nails being more expensive.  I really use my nailer for everything.  I recently used it to install a t&g ipe ceiling in a bathroom and it had plenty of power to sink the nails in the ipe.

K, nailing up a bunch of base, cap n casing as we speak....I love this machine. Thanks for the confirmation and help. Excellent!

I have had a 16 gauge finish nailer for sometime now. Cleaning as you said is very important, along with fresh gas. It seems to me that the gas goes bad right around the expiration date.
  It is a great nailer!

I use to cleaned my nailer all the time.  Now I don't think it has been cleaned in two years.  Still works great.  I guess I know what I will be doing today. LOL

I've had one of the early Paslode framing nailers for many years and have only cleaned it one time..it was acting inconsistently and a cleaning solved all issues..the cleaning process is simple

..Other than that, never a problem with it.
