finishing Trivets

I'm building a bunch of trivets out of walnut/maple for my wife to give as gifts.  What's the best heat resistant finish?  I'm thinking some kind of oil base product that doesn't build a film.  Would pure tung oil work in this application?  This is the prototype.

Regular epoxy can handle 300 degrees F for brief periods of time.  Heat resistant epoxy can handle 600 degrees F.

I have never used this stuff, so you will have to do research.

Or you could mount a pattern of iron clavos and keep the wood protected.

I use mineral oil, same product I use on cutting boards.

These are a year or so old, haven’t had to retreat them. They’re opsessss from the first batch. The one on the right is smaller and the grooves are 1/8”, just something I decided to try.

Love that design from Shaper.  His directions were a bit sketchy but now that I have the template, I should be able to know a bunch of them out pretty quick.  So a hot pan hasn't burned or discolor them?

No issues at all with scorching or discoloring.
