Fixin deeper scratches in the table top

Your post is an excellent example of how woodworking issues should be presented. The photos let everyone know what the problem is, how it can be approached and what suggestions can be shared. I've seen many posts that start with a question or a problem, but 10 posts or suggestions after, the actual problem or extent of the problem is still not clear to the readers.

I agree with this sentiment other than the title of the post.  To me, a dent and a scratch are two completely different things and are handled two different ways.

If this had been an actual deep scratch (as in, a gouge from an abrasion), you probably wouldn't be able to use steam since the scratch generally removes the fibers from the material rather than just crushing and displacing them.

Water in the gouges, see if they swell up. If they do you may just need to let dry and sand back. If not, let us know.
