Flush Trim Bit for OF1010

I recently purchased the OF1010 along with the accessories to use it horizontally as a flush trim router. I currently have a project where I plan to add 1/4" - 5/8" thick hardwood edge banding to a 3/4" thick sheet of melamine. I planned to glue the hardwood to the melamine chipboard edge, leaving it 1/16" proud on both sides. I would then flush trim it with the OF1010.

Does anyone have a recommended bit? I'm currently considering the Whiteside RFTD2100. It's a 1/4" shank, down cut solid carbide spiral, with 1" cut length, and double bearing. I believe the down cut should leave a very clean transition between the hardwood and melamine surface.

Any advice is appreciated.

I don't use flush trim bits much (I have two, that came with the festool set in the round box), but I am a fan of bits with the carbide inserts for bits I use a lot. (I have a very long 12mm bit and a festool 18 mm with an insert on the side and at the bottom, both used for template work with guidebushings)

Down cut should be great for trimming edge banding horizontally. Set up correctly, you shouldn’t need the bearings.

The bit in the link below will make attaching the banding easier. If you make the banding 1/4” or less you can just tape it on so you can also reduce the overlap since it will be easier to align sans clamps.

Could you post the Whiteside model number? It appears the forum deletes the link.

I agree, if adjusted well, the bearing might not be necessary. But very little goes perfect in my shop, so I figured it was a good backup against destroying the work piece.

Fixed the link (my fault). Don’t know if there is a Whiteside model number. I think it’s exclusive to Collins.

I think you're right that it is a proprietary product for Collins as I've never seen it in the Whiteside catalog.
