Well, I alluded to us beginning a new video contest on the forum earlier this week. Consider this the official announcement that the contest has begun. The good news: Australian forum members can participate. The bad news: UK members cannot. The silver lining: Festool UK elected not to participate because they will be having their own video contest in the coming months, so you guys will have your chance at prizes albeit not on the forum.

The premise of the contest is to produce one or more how-to or instructional videos and/or testimonial style videos.

How to Enter

- Please use proper safety equipment including ear and eye protection.
- Any video showing unsafe practices will be disqualified.
- Your video does not have to be "professional" looking or edited. Feel free to just do an impromptu video with your smartphone.
- Videos must be one of two types: a testimonial video or a video showing Festool being used in an application of your choosing.
- Your application style video can be of any Festool power tool or accessory of your choosing in the case. Testimonial videos do not need to feature a Festool product, but may.
- Videos should be less than 5 minutes in length.
- You may enter multiple videos to increase your odds of winning, but each video must be on a unique tool or accessory. Limit ten videos per contest participant.
- Videos showing what comes in the box or just going over the features of the tools are not eligible for this contest, but we do appreciate them.
- Contest entries must be received no later than 11:59pm Eastern Time on January 20th, 2014.
- Videos must be your own original material and must be posted to YouTube on or after Dec. 20th, 2013.
- Must be 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States, Australia, or Canada excluding Quebec.
- Festool employees, forum moderators, dealers and other Festool affiliates are not eligible to participate.
- Post your YouTube video in the "How To" for instructional/how-to style videos or "Review" section for testimonial videos during the entry period to submit your entry.
- All entries may be used by Festool USA and Festool Australia for marketing or other purposes.
- Festool USA and Festool Australia reserve the right to substitute the prize for another prize of equal or greater value.

The Prizes for US/Canadian Entries

We'll select a random winner from each category (testimonial and application video). Each randomly selected winner will receive $500 (USD) in "Festool bucks" to spend on whatever Festool gear they choose.

A third randomly selected winner from entries that feature a Domino DF 500, Domino XL DF 700, or Planex LHS 225 will receive $500 (USD) in "Festool bucks".

The first 20 US and Canadian contest participants will receive Festool swag (shirt and hat). I will contact you via PM or email for your address and shirt size.

The Prizes for Australian Entries

Festool Australia will be randomly selecting a single winner from the entries submitted who will receive $1000 (AUD) in "Festool bucks" to spend on whatever Festool gear they choose.

Good luck to everyone!

Very cool, Shane!  Looking forward to all the great entries!  Thanks to Festool for putting this on again.  I really enjoyed the last one.

Shane, are you aware that the [moronic] set of rules governing contests in Quebec are only valid where the prize fund is more than $2000, and therefore are not applicable to this contest?

If so, is there another reason why Quebec residents are unable to enter?

While that is correct and according to this from their contest regulators in Quebec that they only need to adhere to sections 5 and 6, I'm not certain if in fact they do.  And to get a legal opinion on whether they do or not, I'm not certain that Festool USA is inclined to do such and just simply "omit" Quebec which has largely become the norm with contest offerings.  Can't blame them imo.  Red tape that is easier to avoid than navigate thru if you ask me.

Thanks Shane, fantastic Prize for us down here.  [big grin]

To assist me, and I am sure other entrants, can you provide a video of the Festool logo (dark background), or direct me to a site where it can be downloaded?

I understand that this request may not be possible due to Festool copyright/trademark.

Regards

Shane

What platform will tts UK use to launch their video contest if they are not using the fog?

Kevin, it's precisely because I suspect that Quebec residents are being wrongly excluded in this case due to a knee-jerk reaction whereby Quebec is always excluded from contests that I posed the question to Shane to get a specific answer.

Unless there is something I am unaware of, there is no red tape.

Even though the UK members have to wait a while it will be great to see the entries on this thread.

Good luck everyone.

I'd prefer not to steal any thunder from my colleagues at Festool UK, so I'll refrain from prematurely announcing their contest plans. As I understand, it should happen at the beginning of the year. If I hear details once they are announced publicly, I'll post them here for our UK members.

As was already stated, due to the laws and requirements of the Quebec government regarding contests and sweepstakes, Festool like many other companies, opts to exclude Quebec rather than determining if we have adhered to these laws that don't exist elsewhere. I realize it's a sensitive topic for our Canadian customers that reside in Quebec and regret that the laws make it prohibitive for us to offer contests in your province.

This has been discussed on the forum before, so you may want to search for previous discussions on the topic if you want to learn more. Also, reference the web page below, which also states most companies just exclude Quebec and the reasons why.

Why companies choose not to offer sweepstakes in Quebec
Quebec Laws regarding sweepstakes

Again, sorry that you're unable to participate.

Surely, you could 'temporarily relocate' [wink] to a friend's/family member's address outside Quebec?

Yes, and for many people who are so fed up with the quasi-apartheid laws here, the relocation becomes an actual one!

One thing I forgot to mention is that we have worked with a good number of previous video contest participants to do additional videos over the years. So not only are the prizes at stake, but also the chance to partner with us as a reviewer.

I'll await to see what festool UK COME up with.

And how they actually get people to participate if they are not going through FOG.

Because any one who owns festool and are festool geeks are on FOG

All the other festool owners are only going to find out through dealers or a leaflet posted and I am pretty sure those kinda people are not very likely to go and make a video.

Many of my work mates who have become addicted to festool because of me....think im ridiculous making videos.

And I know their mates who have gone and bought festool because of them would never use the Internet to watch tool videos let alone make their own lol.

Maybe if it's a large prize people might.

I don't know!  Be interesting!

You referring to a UK Fog forum?

To be honest I can't see that ever being any good.

It will be like Bosch forum. Dead

No Festools yet.

Do not despair, try a face to camera/IPad/Phone discussing for example; what Festool means to you, why you want certain tools and how these will enrich your woodcraft - a testimonial.  [smile]
