Folding Canopies are very nice to have for jobs which require setting up a work area outdoors.
in the direct daylight, the Kapex lasers are useless, not to mention all the obvious disadvantages of setting up in someones driveway or yard...
I have a small picnic/beach size folding canopy which is fine for my saw station,  but not alot more...  and then I have a huge one that functions as a portable garage/carport that makes a nice outdoor mobile work shop,  but is really too large and cumbersome to carry and setup...

something that is just right in size would be really great and with the current trends in remodeling work, I suspect many would be interested in having something like this.

I'm thinking something long enough to cover the entire length of the saw station, but with a narrow enough width  to be used for the saw station with an MFT or 2 setup behind the operator  (14-16ft long by 7-8ft wide?)
of course if this were made by Festool, it would be superior in every regard, lightweight, clever beyond imagination, and easily transported and used...
optional curtain walls could be added for inclement weather, and it could double for use as interior partitions for total dust containment when working inside an occupied / furnished residence.

I'm envisioning the Festool blu-Black color for the canopy, anodized aluminum structure and this PERFECT size portable canopy setup on the job I worked at yesterday, and  the mental picture I draw, is something I would go out and buy the moment it became available!

what do you think?  would you buy something like this  and do you have any ideas to add to this idea?

I was going to laugh it off, but it's not a bad design. Like a backpackers tent for a SCMS- and I just about could curl up back there for a lunch nap!

john..

GREAT!,  another item sold in Europe that I can't seem to get ahold of...

any idea how I could get one of these?
this is perfect for my rough work setup  (the DeWalt saw/stand recently became the "outside dog" for framing/decks and other outdoor "rougher" type work,  and that tent is just fantastic for this!

I am still envisioning something a bit different for the Festool Kapes/Kapex UG and a pair of MFT tables behind me...
drop down barrier walls,  standard Festool engineering so it is multifunctional and beyond anything else imaginable,  you guys know what I mean ;)

I use a garden popup Gazebo think it only cost me £30, takes seconds to put up and its big about 10ft x 10ft.

It would need a Festool sausage sandwich dispenser built in  [big grin]

I used one of these while building the house. You can also get sides for it to enclose in bad weather, and a bug screen side.
It folds up in a bag about the size of a golf club bag.

First Up Canopy

Or you could just set up inside the house with the CT. ;)
I don't know about you,but dark color gets really hot when it's sunny!!!! HAPPY SWEATING!

overhead dust collection and power cords integrated into the structure...  no more tripping over hoses and cords

How solid are these, they look like they'd turn into a parachute at the slightest hint of a breeze.

Lately it seems I've been noticing guys working outside just leaving their power tools outside while it's raining...I'm just like  [blink]

I had mine tied to barn framing...

You'll want to stake the legs down (included) or put some weight on them.

I would love to see UL consider that.  [big grin]  The strain relief on the cord as the canopy becomes air born in the once every 100 years wind might be an issue.  [thumbs up]

i used to use one and yes the wind can pick it up,,, one time the wind was so strong it picked it up and blew it all the way to KANSAS  !!!  lol

but the one you are thinking of having made would be way to bulky and heavy and if festool made it it would last for ever but would run $1,500, of course it would include a 30 day return !!!

but they pop ups work good just if you get to big of one it then takes 2 people to set it up, as mine was 12x12 and I tried to set it up myself and it twisted and got all tweaked out of shape and had to through it out...

I could have used one today as it was raining and I do not have much room in the garage I am working in....

NOW A MARKETING IDEA:  YOU CAN buy these from advertising companies and they can print your company name on them with your phone number so when people drive by they know who you are.... it works

...maybe something like this? I believe it is 10x10 feet and 7-8 feet tall.

id like some kind of integrated tanks in the legs . when you go to set it up you conect up the hose and all 4 tanks fill at once then  casters allow you to open out the cpopy as usual.

That's what milk jugs and duct tape are for!!!!

I went to a sporting goods store and got a 12x12 on sale for $99 during a rainy week this past summer. Needed to finish the trim for the kitchen and have used it a few times since. Hey its green lol

That is a pretty good deal,  but as I often do with those irritating little notions that eat at me for a couple days, I got busy searching and messaging...
For myself, I am settling on a hexagonal extruded aluminum frame, with all aluminum fittings and clamps (many are plastic fittings on a steel frame)

the size is about 10 x 15ft (3m by 4.5m to be exact)
and it has 4 walls that each unzip down the middle, or are removable/optional, + 2 additional half walls and frame bar for trade show/conventions or for setting up partial shade walls onsite.  also has a wheeled carrying case, like someone mentioned -about the size of a golf bag.

last but not lease, it has 30kg sandbags (same material as the tent on the outside for aesthetics) which attach to each leg for stability and stakes + a plethora of little accessories,  but if it is that windy/nasty that four  30kg sandbags are questionable, I am working inside or going home for the day anyway...

I can get this in any color and with anything printed on it, either screen print or dye sublimination printing (full color) -also digital printing.  but to add a Festool stripe and 4 small Festool logos,  clean, tasteful and neat,  just as Festool would use if it made this,  will be done by silkscreen and adds very little to the cost,  and then TWO walls + the two half walls are PROBABLY going to get my business name/logo/contact  like a big full color sign,  so that I can use this for advertising in some instances,  or opt for all solid colors, clean and neat for others.

the extruded hex profile aluminum frame (clear anodized just like Festool extrusions) is what really sold me on this, as it is incredibly STRONG, extremely LIGHT,  and can be carried and setup by one person.

there is nearly a month lead time once I place the order,  but all in all, it looks like about $1200 by the time it is manufactured and shipped to me.  Not really that bad considering everything is high quality and exactly what I want  (+ the full color printing on the extra panels is just an incredible advertising capability.

this needed to be large enough to use when I setup my Robland X31 onsite  and actually,  the Kapex UG fully extended + 2 MFT's, dust collection + all the other tools,  10x15 really isn't all that gracious once everything is pulled together and setup.

the combination machine has a custom designed trailer that drops, so all I need to do is back the trailer where I want it, lower it and attach the ramp sides.  ends up being about 8" off the ground on a solid platform,  and is truly FULL SHOP capability onsite,  and the tent will cover this entirely and make a nice work area.

-Now I just need to find enough work to warrant this!
but that is another subject altogether! ::)

I have been considering a 10' x 10' or 12' x 12' for several years. But I work alone and from  what has been said they are hard for one person to set up  ?

As far as a Festool one goes, one more requirement..........  must fit in a Systainer.  [smile]
