For only $50 more, go T18?

I'm currently testing the C15 and have decided that I'd rather have a T configuration. That having been said, I'm wondering why, for only $50 more, I shouldn't go for the T18. I went on Festool's website to compare specs. but both the T15 and T18 specs. are identical. I know that can't be right. Hopefully you can help me decide...

1. How do they compare in size and weight?

2. I'm really liking the "finesse" of the 15. It's the only drill I've ever handled that offers such controlled response to very subtle trigger changes. So, I don't want to compromise this valuable feature in the slightest. Would I find the T18 – even with its added torque – to still be identical to the T15 in its low speed control capability?

3. I've ruled out considering future battery compatibility issues since I don't expect to be buying a Sys-light. And, the Carvex – that will be in my stable – will run on the 15v in a pinch anyway.

I went with the T18+3 when it was only a $40 difference. I think there is a little more torque and battery life. According to the Festool USA sit the T12 can do 540 screws per charge and the C12 only 240!? Typo  [laughing] should be 540, maybe Shane can change it for us  [poke]  I'm sure you will be happy with either one.

Hi Jim and thanks. Your linked post did address several of my questions. Except for my most critical concern... "How does the T18 compare with the T15 in low-speed sensitivity and controllability?" And yeah, I see what you mean about getting "confused even more."

What did you finally go with?

I'm still on the fence.  I spoke with Shane at JLC and others correct me if I'm wrong but what I gathered is the only difference is a few ounces and different battery voltage.  The 18 functions just like the 15 in terms of trigger control. 

-The upside of the 18 is longer battery life
-The upside of the 15 is interchangeable batteries if you decide to buy a Ti15 down the road.  The Ti15 can be bought in the "basic" set without any batteries. 

While I don't need an impact driver right now, I'm not sure, maybe I will in the future.  That's my dilemma.  Like others have said we have 30 days to try it.

i wouldn't let the impact sway you. i'd imagine when they release one to write home about it will come in 18v.

Actually the Festool USA site is accurate. The C12 only ships with a 1.5ah battery and the T12 ships with a 3.0ah battery. Not quite sure why...

All that aside, I graduated up from a T12 to the 15v line and am very pleased. I also have the Ti15, so I'm happy to have cross compatible batteries. The Ti may come in 18 eventually, but I'm betting Europe will see it before we do and then the waiting game for us, so I'm happy where I am for now!
