Forays into order and chaos...

So. Today I tackled a couple of things that I’ve been pushing off for some time.

While I‘m on my way to the new wardrobe, I’ll need a makeshift storage for socks and underwear and such.
I had collected three old drawers at a yard sale some years ago.
So I decided to quickly whip up a storage solution using these drawers and wood from an old IKEA mattress support.
A perfect way to test out the pocket hole jig I just acquired a couple of weeks ago. It is a Wolfcraft. Was thinking about the Kreg R3 for some time, but that is more expensive here in Europe and thus I sprung for the local make.

Works well, but I’ll need to make some more pocket holes to perfect the settings etc..

In parallel I cleaned the shower with a chlorine based cleaner. The whole flat smells like a public pool now.

But this is a rental flat in a house that is over 100 years old...
The former tenants were not too thorough and it showed in the shower. I tried different cleaners before, but this was recommended highly on amazon and arrived today. Couldn’t find it in any store around...

If you ever want to be lazy, instead of scrubbing in the normal sense, put your drill or driver to work. I often use my Milwaukee M12 screwdriver (Reverses) for cleaning, with SoftScrub depending on the tile.

Hi @Peter_C I thought about using a drill and getting into it.

The cleaning job shown was actually even easier. Spray on, wait for 60mins, rinse. [emoji6][emoji4]

I had even contemplated getting the tile-grout-cleaning thing that Fein offers for the OMTs.

Curious what the name of the stuff you used is.

Probably one of those foaming bleach products like Tile-X. Appears to work fine on opaque tile but I get the feeling all it's doing is removing color from the mold. If you use it on a dirty glass door it does become clearer you can tell that the bad stuff is still there and it really requires scraping or power scrubbing.

The name is „Bref Power - Mold and Bacteria“ (loosely translated from German...)

It definitely has chlorine inside and is advertised as killing 99% of the bacteria (like any standard disinfectant).

Yesterday I managed to score a new toilet seat for 10€, so I finally changed out the old one in my rented flat.
I did not want the hassle of getting the landlord to have this done and I can spare a ten-er for a shiny new lid on the „throne“.

In addition I finally whipped up some scrap storage for the longer wood and Aluminium I have laying around.
During the last visit to IKEA (I go there once every couple of months to check out the „scrap/clearance area“ for useful stuff..) I got a set of wheels mounted on a metal plate.
This was 1€, so no questions asked.
It now serves as a means of transport on the scrap storage (other side supported by wooden blocks).

This way the whole thing can be moved if needed, but it will most likely stay in place.
Storage is made out of air-ducts 150mm diameter and a rectangular air canal cut up to support different lengths. I left some space on one side to be able to also put a couple of boards ontop.
Seems to work as intended.

One addition:
How do you know you live in a very, very old house?

If you take down the light fixture to replace a bulb and find that the wiring inside the light fixture looks like this:

Lucky me, only a quick short.

Replaced it with something more modern. Not as stylish, but definitely safer. [emoji56]

Needs some further tweaking but so far I am happy.

Today’s little project was to clean up my heirloom dead-blow Hammer. This thing has served the family for decades and I now bought a couple of new faces and have cleaned the head. Needs a coat of something, but I can’t decide if I should go for the original colored/hammered or a clear coat to show of the nice „history the hammer has accumulated.

Any suggestions?

Somehow I only remember ever seeing this thing with the beat-up Hammer faces. [emoji51]

Am only slowly starting to surface again. But I managed to finish the heirloom hammer.
So here it goes.

It is nice to work with the old tools from my ancestors. And also the fact that you are actually able to make such a used tool look like new again is what I love about tools im general. They just keep on giving if you let them...

Posted this in the attic storage thread already, but I am so happy with my drill attics finally filled, that I can’t keep myself from putting it up here as well.

Here they are:

I really enjoy the Festool brad point bits. They leave a clean cut and the sets I got were real cheap.
I thought a lot about if I should put out the money for the bit sets (Philipps, Pozi, Torx) but since they were only 20 Euros each, I figured it would be more expensive to try and get empty holders to fill up with something else..

If only Fein did a Systainer in orange with an attic in the lid, I‘d be the happiest Attict in the world. [emoji51]

I'm just getting over two weeks of sinuses (mysteriously without much of a cough) and fatigue.

Nice work on the hammer.  My dad was notoriously non-handy, so no tools from him, but I have an old, wooden handled screwdriver from my grandfather that gives me the same feeling when I hold it - this is the third generation of utility.  I can't say that for my computer.

@HarveyWildes, yes. True words about the comparison between tools and computers.

I get so much more satisfaction these days from hand crafting anything. Even more with nice tools, and best with some heritage tools that enable me to remember my ancestors and how they worked with the same tool.

I decided to finally get the „a little bit more than extended base set“ of tools I had been craving for and have splurged for some nice things.

Latest purchase arriving today was the KV-SYS D8 which seems nice. Hope to try it next week.
In addition I got the Bluetooth remote for the CT and some consumables.

...and the nice Wiha Special Edition pink screwdrivers for the lady. I made her a mini-sys set in pink/grey some time ago and these are just the perfect addition. [emoji51]

Will post some more about my recent tool additions soon. I am unbelievably happy with the stuff I got because it really proves to fill the missing spots...
