Hello all,

I would like to take this time to let everyone know a little about myself.  Since I have become a member of this forum this month, I have found it very helpful.  Lots of great information and things to talk about.  So i thought everyone deserves to know who I am and what I am about since I have been posting messages and responding to others.

My name is David smith, I am located in Columbus, Ohio.  Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio.  I am 25 years old and currently hold a Project Managers Position with a company called Forum Manufacturing (www.forummfg.com).  The line of work we do is something everyone can relate to.  Check out the website.  I've been in this industry for about 3 years and absolutely love what I do for a living.  One of the challenges I face being a project manager is that I don't have much bench or hands on experience.  So I've decided to take up woodworking as a hobby for a number of reasons.  One, to help myself to excel in my current position and two, to have a hobby.  There is nothing better having a career that you love to be in.  Since I love it so much and have such a great passion for it, I took up wood working.

A year ago, I started my collection of tools.  2 months ago, I was speaking with one of my shop guys who is German and the most talented custom builder about festool, needless to say he got me hooked.  So thats why I'm on the forum.  To learn more about festool and to interact with other woodworkers to obtain knowledge and information and also to share my information and experiences.

I just wanted everyone to know my background and skill level so that when I post messages or answer messages you know where I am coming from.

Thanks to everyone for being such a big help already.  All your efforts are much appreciated.

Hi David,

It looks like you are working for a good company.  I like the photo of what was built in the St Andrew church.

PS  Mom and Dad went to OSU in the late 50's and early 60's.

Rob,

Thanks for looking at my profile and commenting on it.  I am very fortunate to work for a company like the one I work for.  I have the pleasure of working on jobs that are very complicated but the end result is always outstanding.  My company has numerous AWI awards for doing the ceiling at the St. Andrews church.  We've also won numerous awards for a lot of other jobs including the Wood Hayes Training Facility for the OSU football team.  It was an honor to be apart of that project considering who it was for and where it was located.  Regarding the St. Andrews job, none of those beams have any structural support what-so-ever.  They are just for looks!  And damn does it look good.  A lot of people are always shocked when I tell them those beams are just for looks!

So you got some buckeye background in ya, OSU football here has allways been the best thing since sliced bread.  Even more so since our pro teams can't doing anything.

I wonder if your parents ever got to meet Woody Hayes?

We will see how much Buckeye you got in you by seeing what your response is to this:  O-H!!!

David,

I just stumbled upon this post & i am impressed with your thinking of introducing yourself.  I have recently replied to the "sawdust in your veins" post which encourages others to do the same.
I really like the products you have been working on & i presume you have a group of very talented craftsmen there.

Cheers, Alan Mackenzie (woodguy)

I thought this posting i did was a good idea so people could put a face with a name if you will.

We do get to work on some really nice and interesting projects and we are also blessed to have the crew we have because they  are all excellent craftsman.

Nice to meet you Alan.
