Frosted glass panel for an interior door

As a former glass distributor, doors are required to have safety glass, which usually tempered or laminated.  Plastics are also acceptable but not from a durability or ascetic point of view.  Obscure tempered as a general rule will be cheaper as obscure lami is not common.  There also other requirements for glass adjacent and above doors.

Just to add to what [member=25351]rst[/member]  has already said, plastic glazing, while it's safe from a hazard perspective goes, it is very prone to scratches and if the wrong cleaners are used it can also cloud up. Even using paper towels on acrylic glazing can scratch the surface as opposed to cotton or micro fiber cloths. In the long run, it's better/cheaper to just go with actual glass glazing with the "BUG" attached in the corner as Tom [member=4105]tjbnwi[/member] has already stated.

On top of that, I believe that the only advantage of using white Lami is that it is lighter in weight than glass but I believe it is also much more expensive.

Just for clarity...lami is not much lighter than tempered as it is two pieces of 1/8" glass with vinyl glued between.  1/4" glass weighs 3.15/ sq ft.  I this case you could go with 1/8" tempered which would be lighter and is common in doors.  Even 1/4" tempered is lighter at 2 lb/sq ft.  There is 1/8" lami but I would not recommend that route as it is much more fragile.

Thanks for all the info!

Got the esthetic design sorted out, ordered the stave core stile and rail material today.

Didn't think about the durability issues with plastics. Will go down the tempered glass route, and will make sure to get it with the 'bug'. This won't be a permitted project but that is a great suggestion just in case, it does cover a room that will be a permitted project when things open back up.

Thanks All!
