Anyone have any experience with funnel head screws? They are a cabinet assembly screw that does not require a pilot hole.

Sedge demonstreted them on a recent video:

I tried to order a 100 pack for $8.07 and with the shipping and handling it came out to $47.28!!!

I called them to ask if there was some error, but they said that's what it costs to use FedEx freight, for something that weighs less than a pound.

Anyone have a source or alternative for plywood cabinet assembly? Im familiar with conformat screws, but they require a pilot hole.

I had been using dominos and pocket holes.

Nice but I doubt those preform that much better than self drilling #8 screws from either GRK or Spax. Certainly not $38 better anyway.

Ahmed shows the differences between the choices of brands, GRK and Spax, and the screw types (heads and threads).

He joins the boards together and shows the flaws and strengths of each of the four screws.

It’s not a scientific test. It’s a practical real-world show-and-tell.

The 9-minutes go quickly on Ahmed’s video!

GRK Cabinet for the win!

When assembling cabinets, are you guys using screws like this? Maybe with Dominos? In the very few shop cabinets I've built, I've mainly used Dominos and glue with lots of clamps. Is this a better approach? I've got more shop cabinets to build soon. Or do you use 23ga pins or 18ga brads?

And I can't be the only one spending part of this video just looking around his shop at the gear. I'm liking the black and green vac clamp, the Oliver planer and the phalanx of US General green toolboxes.

But I'm also wondering why the video lost sync about halfway through?

Our go to assembly screws are;

pocket hole, face frame assembley and attachment to box, We use a Castle machine for the pockets

Spax MDF, hardwood screws, box assembly, the CNC drills the panel holes, we do not drill the member the screws are going in to.

Conformats, box assembly, the CNC drills the panel holes the member holes are drilled at the bench.

Install GRK.

I’d like to try the funnel heads to see if they pull the pieces together better due to the head shape.

Euro boxes are about 2% of our sales, the rest are faceframe.

Biscuits/Confirmat screws/no clamps or biscuits with Maxfix clamps for boxes with visible end panels. Regular bar clamps can rack a frameless box so you're better off not using them if you can avoid it.

I just ordered the funnel head screws and once they arrive I will compare them to the GRK screws I tested before and post a video. Expect it within 2 weeks. So far GRK screws are my goto when assembling cabinet boxes.

Also I plan on making a video showing the different screws used throughout a complete cabinet construction.

To be fair, you only need to spend around $50 with these guys to qualify for free shipping. I might try them out soon.

Cool videos! I especially liked the one you used the Big Base for the Domino, I've got the Bigfoot but the Big Base looks even better!

Really disappointed that I watched that, but now I know a #6 screw doesn’t hold as well as a #8. Sarcasm. 1-1/2” is too short for 3/4” stock in my opinion. Also, he didn’t use the clutch did he? Just let off the trigger when he felt like it? He stripped out the washer head Spax is one reason it didn’t hold as well as the GRK. Was the larger diameter GRK just as short? Rrrr.
