Gallery: It wants to add my pictures to images of users already there?

Following in the footsteps of Dan Clark, I did some screen grabs for introducing the basics of image resizing using my favorite image editing software. And I wanted to do those screen grabs inline with the tutorial, and just to make sure that I don't have to maintain these things for perpetuity on my own web site, I wanted to upload 'em to the gallery.

So I go to the gallery, click on "MyImages", click on "Add A Picture", and among the various fields it presents me with a "Category", which is a pull-down that only has the names of those who've already uploaded to the gallery.

Do I just upload with my image categorized under one of them and someone behind the scenes will figure things out, or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Dan,

Hi.  I believe that the process is to contact Matthew asking him to create a Gallery for you.  That said...

When I created that Photo Tutorial, I thought that it would be a bit simpler - I would create the tutorial, folks would comment, I'd make the necessary changes, and that would be it.  Now it looks like it needs to be a bit more interactive and open, which is a good thing.

Maybe it's better to have a single "Photo Tutorial" image library.    For the time being, until we get this sorted out, try uploading to my Gallery and referencing the screen shots there.

I believe that we can each edit or delete the images that we create, but not delete someone else's images.    I don't know if that extends to Gallery ownership.

Try uploading to my Gallery and let me know how it works out.

Thanks,

Dan.

Dan,
I have created a folder in the Gallery for you.  Upload the photos you want to that folder.  Then I will approve the photos.

For now, I'll approve photos by hand.  After we get the system up and running, I'll make it so photos can go in without approval.

Thanks,
Matthew

Thanks, Matthew! I already uploaded the first batch to Dan Clark's folder and incorporated them into a tutorial. If there's an easy way to move 'em, they're all the files prefixed with "gimp_".

Just a reminder to everyone that I can easily create a Gallery folder for any member who wants one.  If you don't yet have your own folder and you want to post photos right away, please post your photos in the "Common Gallery" folder.  I will move them later.

I want people to post in the Gallery.  It's a great way to share images of our projects, shops, and other Festool-related happenings.

Stay in touch,
Matthew
