Garage Cabinets with Melamine particle board

most in the uk are cam and dowel like on page 76 in hafele book. Some are just glue and dowels. i never see and with screws and caps as it defeats the object of using a finished board. only screws are used when not seen.

I built a set of garage cabinets 3 yrs ago using mdf core melamine.  Used the 5mm dominos and Gorilla glue, no screws used.  No need for screws as long as your using a glue that will adhere to melamine.

I used all three methods you describes, mostly with plywood. My latest project has been with the LR32 system building the Chaos wall for my Festool collection and 8 feet tall garage cabinets for two different locations. I now either use, the Domino and screws or the Rafix system depending on a couple of factors. Will they need to be disassemble in the future, size of the cabinet versus space you have to work with, and, will I have help moving these cabinets in place.

The Domino system is very fast, accurate and gives strong joints, I either use confirmat screws of Kreg screws to shorten clamp time. I skip the screws when I making finer pieces and have no way to hide them. Once your joint is glued you can't go back and  you have to maneuver the cabinet as one piece and for big cabinets you need some help.

The Rafix system requires more work then the above system, as the hardware requires precise installation. Guido Henn's chaos thread has a video about how to build and install these cabinets. Once you get the hang of it, it's quite easy. The joints when you are using the Rafix SE 32 are rated for 450 pound tear out pressure more then enough for most cabinets. The individual pieces are easy to transport, and installation by one person in a tight space, a breeze. By sharing partition between the cabinets you also save on wood and space.

If you search this website for 32mm euro cabinet, Chaos wall, LR32, builds in you will get a ton of information and some very nice video explaining the different system and techniques. What tools to buy, the domino is very handy for many projects and I got it early on. The LR 32 system, if you are going to have multiple cabinets project is worth every penny. I recently got the Parallel guide system as they are many repetitive cuts in cabinet making and it has reduced my cut times by 30%. The CXS is also a very sweet tool for cabinet making and installation.

Good luck with the project.
