Hello All,
I'm in the process of rehabbing my 1954 two car garage and would like some input on the two support posts on either side of the overhang. As you can see in the first photo there used to be a brick facade with planters and the two supporting "posts" were simply 1x material made into a box shape.
My plan is to put a house wrap and vinyl siding over the existing wood siding, but before I start that, I want to properly replace these posts. Am I able to simply brace with a beam on an angle from the bottom corner to the underside of the overhang? Or, would I be better off pouring new concrete footers for the posts to rest on? It seems to me that the posts are needed because they support a point load on either side of the garage. Thanks.
