On Wednesday night my wife's truck and a deer had an interaction of sorts.  Proved that Rams (Dodge) are hardier than Deer.  My brother sent me the following link.

CAUTION:  DO NOT DRINK ANYTHING WHILE WATCHING AND/OR LISTENING!

Deer might be smarter than we think?

Peter

LOL.  Nice video Peter.

Hope your wife is okay.  Did the interaction happen in a deer crossing zone?

Eric

Deer crossing??? I always thought those signs were to be on the lookout for for "dancing" deer.

She's fine, and at least the deer tried the driver's door.  A number of years ago I was a project manager on a job in beautiful Puyallup, Washington and the developer was from Australia.  The stories he told about vehicle / kangaroo interactions were really scary.  Seems that kangaroos that go thru windshields have really long claws and do a lot of interior damage.

And yes, there were deer crossing signs around but not in this particular area.  This must have been an illegal crossing of the Capreolinae(n) kind.  Our deer here are rebels.

Jaywalking deer?

When I was in High School, a couple of guys I knew were coming home late one night in a VW Beetle - the real kind, not today's cuties. The area where we lived was on the outskirts of Houston and was only partially developed so there were occasional ranchitos and farms if you took certain back roads. Anyway, they came around a blind corner and there was a horse. They almost stopped but bumped it. It fell over on the "bonnet" and the head went through the windshield so that it could have kissed the passenger. As the story goes, the horse snorted, extricated itself from the car, and walked away. The Bug didn't even limp away.

I see, so what is needed are harsher penalties for jaywalking deer. [blink] [big grin]

Where I am from, Nevada, there were signs out along the desert roads that just read "Open Range". One night near midnight I was zipping along a mountain road crossing over from the Owens Valley in CA back into Nevada & I learned that "Open Range" is western speak for "we don't bother to fence in cattle".  [doh]

The cow and the Mitsubishi Montero both sustained career ending damage, & I got my first and (so far) only personal experience with an air bag.

At first I found this very funny, and then upon further contemplation I realized that while her premise is "questionable", she was very articulate.  I wonder what public office she is currently seeking?

I know the deer is smarter than that woman!!

I'm a little suspicious about the legitimacy of the radio station's call. The Y94 Morning Playhouse radio show encourages unusual calls. Even if the radio station wasn't complicitous in the call, the call itself is dubious.

It was just a year ago on August 19, 2011 that the Munster Indiana Times published a similar letter by Tim Abbott. This letter made national news and was even read on the air by Jay Leno. The letter was real, but the author will neither confirm nor deny whether he was joking when he wrote it.

I suspect that this caller came up with the idea after hearing about the previous story, or even the fact that this has been an old joke as well.

I, like Rick am VERY suspicious that this wasn't a tongue-in-cheek call from a lady that was good at sounding serious.  I just can't imagine anyone (male or female) sincerely thinking that is how the world works...  [eek]

Redheaded dear, more noticeable when you put it next to a Md dear. I have a few on my wall, most of my hunting is in Ashland/Doswell Va. Maybe I should put a deer X-ing sign in the woods near my tree stand lol

Seat belts, air bags, poison warnings, "keep away from the edge" signs, etc, etc. We've defeated Darwin. It takes generations of breeding to produce someone that stupid  [sad]

Peter, I can't believe you did not warn me not to eat anything while watching/or listening.
I was just working on some crackers and really great Vermont cheddar.
I damned near choked to death.
I am just amazed that you were so stupid  [poke]
