There was a huge flame war going on (what else is new?) at woodnet about someone getting all excited about a HF store opening up in their area.  Holy smokes!  Nothing gets them going more than debating the nuances of whether or not HF does their own designs or steals from others.  I sat back and snickered quietly, confident in my knowledge that every tool I buy from Festool has been exhaustively researched and will give me years of quality service and satisfaction.  The thread disintegrated into buying American vs. Chinese vs. wherever and went south from there.  The vitriol was palpable.  Whether we like it or not, we live in a world economy with Powermatic, Sawstop (acknowledged leaders in their design and quality) and others coming from China so it makes no difference to me.  I only care about quality, not where it came from.  Is a Toyota Tundra made in San Antonio still a Japanese car?  Or a Mercedes made in Alabama still German? Interesting enough, I just read that the Mercedes plant in Alabama was rated their best plant, period, for quality.  Festool could set up shop in Mexico and as long as the quality control is there, that's all that matters.  Junk is junk, no matter where it comes from and I tried the HF route once and that is all it took.  Buy quality and you'll never regret the initial expense...

And the BMW plant in Gree, SC has at times been rated No. 1 in BMW's factories, and is the only plant in the world in which they make their Z4, and X3 and X5 SAVs.  As you said, quality is quality, and can be achieved by people in any country.

Not so fast. If I am going to purchase QUALITY tools from Festool, with my hard earned money, they better not come from a Third World country. It's fine with me if they come from USA, Germany,or any country where our standards of living are on par with each other, but not from someone working for  fifty cents a hour.
