Finishing up my plans for a Big Green Egg stand and found some 6/4 and 10/4 ipe for a "reasonable" price I may buy for the project. I'll be using my Domino XL and the Sipo tenons I think.  What glue should I use?  I may even chance it and use the new Domino mechanical connectors in a few spots.

I've done some work with Teak before. Will a wipe with acetone prior to glue up allow for a better bond?

I would use Titebond III myself.

I routinely use Titebond III and West system epoxy in various forms on all type of exotics everyday.

I never used acetone ever either,. I just glue withing hours of cutting. You can test it cut two scraps and glue them  together, Let them dry and the next day see if you can pull it apart, if you can maybe you need acetone. I never had any stock that needed an acetone wipe that was recently cut, Titebond III works very well with the exotics.

+1 for Titebond III and I also prefer to glue a freshly machined surface without wiping with a solvent.

Ok thanks. I use a lot of US Composites epoxy so I'll just use that. Similar to west systems but about 1/2 the price.

A corworker tried to glue Ipe to make cutting boards, it didn't work.  I doubt he tried epoxy glue.  Keep the FOG informed with your findings. I am interested to know what works and what doesn't.

I may try it on a few small pieces before I build the entire grill stand.  Will also use some Kreg pocket screws to keep things together incase the glue fails.

West Systems six10, make sure you wipe the Ipe with acetone before glueing.

Is this or any epoxy food safe?

A question best answered by them. From their website;

Thanks Tom.  6/10 is probably a little more user friendly than the regular pump system. I may use my US composites stuff since I have 4-5 gallons floating around.

West System is an awesome company. When I was rebuilding my 233 formula they emailed me detailed plans on how to replace the transom of the boat and other technical advice. The guy dug up a 4 page pamphlet they published 7-10 years before.  Very helpful.
