Going All Apple

I don't know what program was being referenced for viewing the models, but I found one that might be interesting named SightSpace 3D.  I have not used it.

Peter

It's a service and app from 3Dvia.com Here's a quickie YouTube video of a current project of mine on my iPad:

Sketchup on an iPad2

(hope it works, I'm on the balcony typing this on my iPad)  [smile]

That little video showed me exactly why I want an iPad.  The Touch Screen.  Seeing it like that really shows the ease.  Thanks for that.

It seems like that app is the one for the iPad, and Google Sketchup would be more for the iMac.
But, is 3Dvia an equal program to Sketchup.  Would I need Sketchup?  Again, trying to keep my learning curve to a minimum.

YOu will get good with the track pad, it can substitute the mouse.  I am old fashion and I need a mouse to work with sketchup.

I use a mouse and 3D mouse, one in each hand, I could never go back to one mouse. And a track pad? No way!For serious sketchup the 3D mouse(I use the SpacePilot PRO, but the cheaper versions are good as well) is a must!

That mouse looks fantastic, but the price will keep me away from it.  I wish I could afford it.

HOLY WICK!!!  I hope you're getting the best bang for your buck with that!!!  $400 for a rodent is pretty steep.

Yes, you would still need to have Sketchup on a computer in order to generate drawings/models. Sketchup is computer 3D modeling software. The iPad "app" from3Dvia is just a small Ipad specific application that allows you to view a Sketchup model, created elsewhere, on the iPad.

I've used the SpaceNavigator with SketchUp for a couple of year now. I would not do without it, OR something to take its place, like the SpacePilot.  ;D
Actually, been thinking about making that purchase. I keep having to take my left hand off the SpaceNavigator to perform a function ... in for a penny, in for a pound!

Now I am jumping ahead of myself here since I did not get my iMac yet.  And I have never used Sketchup.
But what is wrong with Space Navigator unit for $79?  That has to work better then a mouse for Sketchup.  And $79 is not all that bad.

Actually, the SpaceNavigator does not take the place of the mouse, it is used with the other hand to "navigate" around the model while doing the actual "drawing" with the mouse. It takes a bit of practice but soon becomes second nature. I'd say you have to be pretty hardcore SketchUp to get full benefit from it, but it is a time saver when putting together large models, like a full, detailed kitchen model.

So what's the latest, any new toys ??

I found an iPhone 6 that somebody left in a bar.

I ordered the 27" iMac.  Should be here on Tuesday.  I cannot wait for my wife to see this screen.
Next will be the iPad 2  (Don't want to wait for the 3)
Then the iPhone 5 Super 4G.  That is the new phone.  Only for all Apple people.  If you have a pc, then you cannot get it.

I am really thinking about getting the OF1010.

All the chatter on the net is now stating announcement for October 4th and release date of October 14th.  I'm questioning whether to bother or maybe, how stupid am I?  I'm in contract and can't upgrade until October of 2012 and would have to pay full price for the yet to be released model.  If I wait for iPhone 6 next year, that'll only leave me 2 months of use before the world ends, so...WHAT SHOULD I DO?

1.)  Spend around $750 for the new model

2.)  Wait until Oct. 2012 for the newer model with only a couple of months to enjoy it

3.)  Get an Android device and survive Earth's apocalypse

[scratch chin]

I'm torn just now between an HTC & a Blackberry.  Not going to pay over £500 for the iphone !

Ken,

Silly Guy.  That is the Iphone 5 with the optional multi-purpose external camouflage antenna / iStand.  Code name iBent.  Rumor has it that if you stick the pronged portion in your mouth with a moisturistic piece of protein that it will change the reception in direct proportion to the cost per gram of the product carefully impaled on the directional tines.  Hamburger - 1 bar.  New York strip - 6 bars.  Kobe filet mignon - off the scale.

My sources tell me that if you carefully impale an apple on that ...  you end up looking like an idiot.

I love filet mignon, so I'll probably burn it out.  I'll stick with the iPhone 4 unless it works with lima beans.
