Going All Apple

I'm kind of amazed you guys watched an hour and a half phone presentation. Interesting to see what Apple stock is doing right now...

I am not a twitter person and here is a thought I posted on Cnet:

"As a sign of respect for someone who - love him or hate him - helped to change the computer world in which we live, I would suggest that all individuals who use an Apple product, whether it be a Mac, iPhone, ipod, etc., shut them down for 5 minutes on Monday at noon in remembrance of an individual who helped shape out modern computer experience.  By doing so the entire world will have an opportunity to show reverence to a man with ideas.

You twitter people out there - you know how to make this happen."

Well, someone with a twitter account and alot of active followers tweets the message (you ned to shorten the message thou since tweets are max 160 characters long or then tweet a link to your cnet article) and some retweet the message to their followers and if enough retweets happen it will spread like wildfire. Else it will just dwindle.

I don't use Twitter.  I was suggesting that someone who does tweet do something like this.  It would be interesting to see the impact on the web traffic for that period of time.

With all due respect I think you should.
If nothing else it (Twitter) is a fantastic news feed.
Ignore the idiotic self promotion by those duffuses in Hollywood (unless you really like it) and subscribe to folks who share your interests. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Again, with all due respect, I suggest you sign up and post this and take credit for this idea yourself. For what it's worth my wife thought it was a great idea (I try to listen to her...) when I mentioned it to her this afternoon.
I don't use Twitter as effectively as I can or should but if you have any questions about Twitter I am happy to answer any that I can...

Got my iPhone 4S yesterday.  Have not had a chance to play with it yet, but so far I like it.
Just have to get the iPad today and then I am all Appled up.

What apps do you guys like for the iPhone?

Slowly but surely getting there.

Be sure to get tapatalk...

I would like to know what Apps everyone is using on their iPhones.
Construction Related mainly, but a few fun ones too.  I am not a game player, but I have a 3 yr. old boy and 10 month old girl.
Thanks!

BuildCalc, MyMeasures and Dimensions, SketchBook Mobile. BalusterPro, BeamBuddy.

Free versions to start, upgrade if need be. BuildCalc, has no free version, but worth every penny.

Invoice2go lite is free and does everything the paid app does. I upgraded to the paid version on my iPad 2 and iPhone  and thats all I use for estimates and invoices 95% of the time. Client like that if I do an extra I can send them an invoice before I leave their house.  [big grin]

With due consideration I totally disagree.
Though an enthusiastic computer / iPad user. I don't use Twitter (or Facebook).

Twitter because it has the potential to be an enormous time eating distraction. An encouragement for the people with an addiction to being connected all the time. And for the many who feel they must read tweets in real time it destroys concentration.

Facebook due to it being totally untrustworthy as it has demonstrated many times. The only interest Facebook has is to make all your data avalable for them to make money on advertising. Also you can never truly delete pictures whatever you think you have done.

These are enough reasons for me. If properly informed you take the opposit view point then "good for you"
YMMV

Tim,

I am sorry that somewhere I missed your post.  I totally agree with you that I should or should have.  But if you have a moment I want to explain myself.

I frankly don't have the time to do the twitter stuff and all the other social networking stuff if I want to service my customers and pay my bills.

Early in the year I had the pleasure of going to an event and meeting with the owner of a company that had been around for more than a century.  That owner had been at a breakfast and had listened to the speaker who was talking about the impact of social networking and how it could grow your business in a down economy.  He came back excited and ready to roll.  We talked and he told me that this "expert" said that if you want to make it work you need to spend 30 + hours a week doing it.

My wife is trying to establish herself as an author and she has to do all the self promotion / social networking stuff.  Based on a year of her efforts - 4 to 5 hours a day - I am still waiting for results that would pay for the Internet access bill.  Let alone minimum wage returns.

Maybe things will change in the future, but right now I would much rather choose to spend time here helping in whatever way I can to make the FOG a fun and informational place.

I totally respect your comments, and I want to say that the manner in which you presented them reinforces again why I enjoy reading your posts and also those for others here.

A heads up to all that have BuildCalc and have updated to iOS 5.

If you go to the stair function (and a few others) then attempt to input a parameter, the app will shut down and take you back to the home screen. The developer knows of the bug and has sent out beta versions to the testers. Apple has the update under review. A public update is only a few days away.

I have just got an update to 2.1.4 the second this week so it may well be fixed now.

I wish her luck. At this point, with that much time invested she's probably an expert on self promotion and social networking and can probably write a book/blog about her experience.
As I understand it the traditional publishing industry is brutal on authors and getting tougher everyday. I was surprised to learn that despite marginal increases in revenue, the industry as a whole are selling less books.

Well I am happy that you do.
