Can anyone recommend a forum where the focus is on the use of hand tools and the atmosphere is as good as on the FOG? Any ideas?

Try UK workshop. They have a pretty active hand tool subforum, but be prepared for a little less moderating and a few more "heated" discussions.

Oh and don't mention sharpening!

Sounds dull.  [wink]

I find the folks over at the Woodnet Hand Tool subforum to be a pleasant group.  The structure of the boards isn't the best (it automatically deletes threads over a certain age unless someone adds to the thread)

Not sure if it's kosher to post a link here, but I'm sure it would be easy enough to find.

If you do join uk workshop. Ignore a member called jacob. Do not get drawn into any 'debates' with him. He can only see things his way, and often just repeats everything he has said previously. :(

The Wood Talk Online forum has a sub-forum for hand tool users. The conversation is normally very interesting, and could use some new faces! Most of the guys there are really fun to share ideas and techniques with.

Yes, the infamous Jacob!

talkFestool.com has quite a bit of hand tool discussion as well as individual manufacturer areas.  It is not as active as it once was, but there are lots of great discussions in the archive begging to be revived.
