My corner office view for the week.  Daniel Island, on the Wando River.  In case that wasn't enough salt in the wounds for the guys in the north, it's going to be 78 tomorrow!

Dang, just as we're hitting our first freeze warning of the year. But it could be worse, my buddy in Fargo is dropping to -20F this week.

Sydney's mild for this part of summer, plus a little rain ... but it won't stop me having fun in the ocean.

You're welcome to your warm weather.  :) My skis are waxed and I'm off this weekend! It's a stunning day here in Montreal.

P.S. Check out the best snow removal in the world!

Good morning.

It's 4.51 AEST, cannot sleep as the dog woke me up an hour ago barking at the neighbours cows. He tolerates them unless they come close to one certain fence area, cannot work out why?

Now it is supposed to be summer, check this forecast for the next few days for Western Victoria. Even snow forecast in Alpine areas in NE of state. Brief return to summer at weekend.

Sounds rough - we don't even have a dog but the sheep sometimes come close to the fence. I think we were woken up twice last year, might have been once, but maybe we are still asleep - difficult to tell really.

My doctor told me to ignore the sheep but what does he know about insomnia - you can't count on doctors these days but sheep...zzZZ zzZZ.

Peter

Jon,

Great to hear the weather is nice, and the view from your office is so spectacular.  It probably eases the pain of not spending more time in your shop ...  [smile]

I'm about 6 months from retirement, and decided I'd spend the next month at home, rather than work, so I could buidl some Christmas gifts and do some more remodeling.

But if it makes you feel better, I had to go out and run the snowblower at 7:00AM, and it is about 7F this afternoon ..

I don't know how you guys deal with the cold.  I'm a skinny dude and it just wears me down.

Kev, surf report looks a little lame...when do the big swells hit?

Jon, I'm with you...I despise winter.  I'm 130 lbs soaking wet and I get cold at 60F!  I guess winter wouldn't be so terrible if I didn't have to deal with the elements. Cold tools, dragging adhesives in and out every night, etc...no fun!

No no no Peter...please don't ignore the sheep! If you're awake please bring the sheep inside or tie them to a tree.
The weather forecast says a storm is comming up from west and I don't want all your sheep to be blown in my direction!  [scared]

I love the picture of your house Henrik. Are Wallace and Gromit difficult house guests?

Peter

Not difficult guests anymore Peter.

As you can see in the picture they are leaving now. Riding on the storm and going further east... maybe heading for Sweden!  [big grin]

Hopefully they haven't got the GPS coordinates for our summerhouse in Sweden.  [unsure]

(Oh by the way...it's Shawn the sheep, not Wallace and Gromit. I've always loved Wallace & Gromit and Shawn the Sheep. Actually I introduced the characters to my boys way before they we're introduced in danish television. And I still watch both Wallace & Gromit and Shawn the Sheep. I'll never grow up! [embarassed])

My old barber has retired now but when his business was in full swing he employed his son, first as an apprentice and then as a full time barber. His son's name was Shawn (probably spelt Sean) which I thought was a good name for a barber - almost as bad as a boy named Sue.

Glad I don't live in Dallas, Texas!

Yesterday it was pleasant and 80 degrees (27c)...and then today, 24 hours later? 20 degrees (-6c).  Only a 60 degree swing in 24 hours! [scared]
They are dealing with the following now...

945 PM CST Wed Dec 4 2013

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 6 PM Thursday to
6 PM CST Friday...

* timing... freezing rain is expected to begin Thursday evening and
continue through Friday. Some light amounts of sleet are also
possible Friday.

* Main impact... ice accumulations will create hazardous travel
conditions on area roads... especially on bridges and overpasses.
Significant travel impacts are possible during this
event... where ice accumulations may make Road surfaces
impassable at times through Friday afternoon.

* Other possible impacts... ice accumulations may bring down
trees and power lines... and could cause power outages.

* Accumulation... around one quarter inch of ice accumulation is
possible during this event. The highest accumulations will tend
to be on elevated surfaces... such as bridges... overpasses and
trees. Very light sleet accumulation is possible Friday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...
roads... bridges... and overpasses in the warning area will be very
hazardous... and possibly impassible. Do not travel unless it is an
emergency. Keep an extra blanket... flashlight... food... and water
in your vehicle in case you become stranded.

Tree branches may break due to the weight of ice accumulation
which may cause power outages. Prepare for interruptions to power
service if you are in the warning area.

Peter and Henrik

The dog has promised me he will be counting 'Shawns' tonight.

On second thoughts, he had better not, they are in the other neighbouring paddock!  [eek]

Nice views, Jon and Richard.  I love this time of year, in NYC.  Pine trees on every corner, holiday lights, hot cocoa.  Bob, steel cut oats and fish oil, in the morning, will raise your tolerance to the cold...been doing this for +25 years...only need a coat below freezing.

Jon,

Body insulation does help you tolerate the cold -- and being young!  I am about 50 pounds down from my former plump self, and I'm 61.  The winters here definitely seem more harsh to me.

Whenever the wind whips it up - but I like it lame these days - I'm on a SUP now ... SUPs are cool.
