I believe I've narrowed it down to a Felder FB 600. Is that something I should order from the manufacturer, or is there a vendor you all have had luck dealing with? Thanks in advance.

Great saw.. I trust you have the requsite power requirements? It think the US version is rated at 4kw.. so 20A at 240v.

I bought my Hammer from Felder direct in the UK, had to wait 3 months as none in stock

I see a lot of used bandsaws for sale, either by guys retiring, closing down, or sometimes woodwork schools that are upgrading their machines.

It is one workhorse in the shop that can literally last for decades if maintained properly, and some of the older machines were really well-built. It is also one machine which has not essentially changed over the last 30 years. If I had the space, I would go for one of these.

For a few hundred dollars, you can walk away with a machine worth ten times that, and whilst it is not only a question of money I think it is good for the woodwork ethos to keep a good old machine running.

I just received the following in an email from Felder:

I was all set to buy the FB 600 but can't as it is not available in Europe as a single phase machine
I find Felder very good to deal with but remember that their band saws are based on Italian machines - some laguna stuff comes from the same factory. Griggio saws are almost identical to some of the Felder range
The advantage when you buy a Felder branded saw is just that - Felder stand behind the product, control the quality etc
If you don't get an Italian sourced saw as far as  I can tell almost everthing ekse is Chinese
I have nothing against chinese msnhfacturing but I want someone like Appe dictatibg the rules to them and not the Swiss owners of Jet for exampke

You order from Felder directly and their is a sales person that handles your area.  Great saw.  I would add a Laguna DriftMaster fence to your machine -- this will making adjusting for blade drift easy and it is a joy to use.
