What a piece of crap!! ;D

Now that I have your attention and probably shocked you I am absolutely amazed at the quality of cut, the fit and precision of this machine is absolutely phenomenal. I bought the tool and test M & T into work and asked some woodworking co-workers to pull the joint apart. So far nobody has succeeded.

Can't wait to show my West Coast Wood Butcher buddies at breakfast tomorrow morning as well. Might leave the machine at home so know one steals it... or gets syrup on it

We are a loose band of WoodWorkers in the Vancouver , BC Canada area.

We travel south of the border on occasion and invade Grizzly in Bellingham.

Basically, most of us met on a Canadian Woodworking forum years ago and have become good friends. We vary in age and professions (one of us is even quite famous, not me and travels the world for his craft). The group has done everything from large milling parties where we deliver our wood to a kiln and then divy it up and we've also spent days tuning and playing with hand tools or turning on mini lathes.

It is a fun group all with the same goals. To have fun!!! Learn from each other and share some laughs. After Breakfast tomorrow morning the group will haunt KMS Tools, then Lee Valley and then the plan is to mill up a couple of alder's for future turnings/ woodworking.

PICTURES!!!! I want pictures of pancakes from the round table, and pictures of you guys milling alder (not to mention some more exotic locations wood pornery from Mirko, I still go and look at that mahog panel job all the time)

I won't be milling Alder with the group as I have a kitchen countertop and some kitchen mods for my dear sweet Mother In Law who pretty much funded the Domino purchase.... along with my MFT.

The next time she gives me funds I am gonna throw them in the kids RESP's just so it doesn't look like I am a greedy Son In Law

I recognized it like a shot to the heart. Turks/Caicos. That's the same house with the helix stairway. Tiger mahog ply the whole thing wasn't it?
 
Mirco, I do not have words for that piece of work.  All I am capable of is the same as john, "That's beautiful."

I have a friend in Troy, PA who is a retired cabinet maker.  I have seen some of his work that he did for a DIL.  Same discriptive words there.  I asked him how much time he spends looking for just the right wood.  He told me, even tho he has special suppliers, he still spends 2/3's of his time on a project looking for the right wood.  How much of a lifetime did you spend looking for that wood? 

Me, I would not waste my time.  I would be afraid to touch it if I did found wood like that. :-\

Ah crap, Merko,

Here I thought one of my kitchens was attractive and you have to go and post this!  Now I have to go back and tear out my work and try to match this beautiful creation.  Wow!

The home owner found the wood actually, all the crotch mahogany was veneer and it started out in sheets aprox. 2' x 12'  :o
This in not the kind of Veneer that comes with the paper or felt back, its all custom made, it was pressed onto different thickness boards and also made into 3ply (with 1 cross band) We never had to work with the raw veneer, mainly panels, the 3 ply was for curved work.
The shop that handled the veneer used close to a million dollars worth of european veneer equipment, so this is not something you can do yourself.

All the rooms were octagon shaped so we had to watch the order of the book matching, every elevation in the room was matched perfectly so we had them make 9 complete matched walls so we always had 1 extra. The house is Concrete so every wall needed to be furred out plumb and flat, we then attached the panels with screws, later the trim and casings coved them.

We made all the casings in the house, working off the existing windows and doors, then removing them for finishing. We used routers and lots of jigs,  the moldings were custom made with shaper knives, therefore router bits needed to be made to correspond the profile for the curved parts.
The windows and doors were made in Germany by Tischler.  

If we had the Domino, would have been so much easer!!

Wow,  :o  a real treat to see what "quality" really looks like. Materials, Design and Craftsmanship - and a couple of bucks.

   Soon the TV design teams will be attempting to create the same look using contact paper vinyl veneer and plastic molding  ;D
