Got this bad boy the other day (a friend of mine brought it back from Florida)

I've an idea it will end up in a router table

I've jury  rigged it to do a few rebates for my sys ports .

If that is the same 3-1/4 HP motor that I have, the 75182, then I highly recommend keeping it mounted.  The torque that it can put out is immense, I know I could easily lose control of mine if using handheld.

These routers are beasts, I have two...one in a router table with a Benchdog raiser (also a beast, cast iron with huge bronze bushings) and another that I use freehand with a self made base and handle that is about 12" from the stock base giving me plenty of leverage.  It will definetely torque you up with the standard base, I use mine for pattern routing 3/8 acrylic

I have the old Bosch 3 1/4hp router and that is not a free hand tool.  But mounted in my router table it runs all day long without a whimper.

I picked up one of the US-made ones at a pawn shop a few years back for $120.  Super deal.  It is not a casual tool.  It will spin a giant hunk of metal.  I have used it freehand to route panel details, cut out solid surface sinks, and route a 3" thick bullnose edge in solid surface with a scary as all get out custom router bit.  It is like a handheld shaper.  I really fear it and am inclined to throw on my kevlar chaps when I am using it.

I have the makita 3 1/4 hp plunge router for heavy free hand cuts. The soft start on it makes it super manageable. I remember when the Bosch EVS routers were hard starts, I hated flicking the switch on them...not a problem on my 1010 either. got to love soft start!

One of the nice things about it, if your buying one brand new for use in a dedicated router table, is they sell just the motor without the base

I have the Porter Cable 7539 router.  The plunge router version of yours.  Its great.  Newest models have soft start.

I have the old Bosch 90300 3 1/4hp router and that is not a free hand tool.  But mounted in my router table it runs all day long without a whimper.  This is a 20# machine with no soft start but once it's going it rips.
