Hey Gang -

The team at Forge 3D have come up with a Systainer3 M 237 insert for the Grabo!  Wait - it is for TWO Grabos! (and batteries)

I've been talking with the team for a few months, pitched the idea of a Grabo insert and they have delivered.  You can see this fitout and so much more over on Systainer Works (an inspiration site for all systainer users and soon to be users).  Ideally you get your Systainer at Systainer Store, but there are a variety of dealers.  And the Grabo insert itself is from Forge 3D

Make it a great day - Sys Tim

Thanks for posting that, Tim.  Would be a great home for my two Grabos, which currently live in their bags.  One of my few tools that don’t have a home yet in either a systainer or Packout.

Glad to share!

One thing I didn't call out and should have is that this insert has a couple different materials in it.  One thing that isn't noticable is the exact placements of some magnets to hold each Grabo in place.  It is a well thought out solution.

Tim, is there enough room in the Systainer to also store a Betterley rail clamp?

Hi [member=44099]Cheese[/member]

Short answer: I believe so.

Long answer:
If you want the rail clamp attached, you would need a taller Systainer, though I can't say for sure this insert works well in taller systainers, each systainer actually has some variation in the structure.

Now if you remove the clamp from the Grabo, I'm pretty certain it will.  Would you believe me if I told you I actually don't have a M 237 in my home workshop at the moment where I have a prototype of these inserts?  None the less, if you will "forgive the crudity of the model" (thanks Doc Brown), then follow me on the photos.

I've got the insert in an M 187, obviously not tall enough.  It is next to an L 237.  I've included a variety of objects on top of the Grabo and in between the Grabo to illustrate that I believe to be available space.  There is a T-Loc MINI, a caliper case, and then SYS-Inserts, four of the 2.7mm thick ones.

The MINI may be a hair too tall as an illustration of an upper limit.  You may be able to squeeze in another insert inbetween the two Grabos.

So given this, and not having the specif systainer or the rail clamp, but using my eye, I believe there is room to make it fit.  I could even imaging some sort of way to clip it to the lid and have it nestle between the two grabos.

Thanks for that Tim [member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member] looking at your last photo is similar to how it's stored now. That'll work... [big grin]

[member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member]  Tim, I see the spaces for extra batteries. What about the charger? Does that have a dedicated space?

[member=66966]jonnyrocket[/member] You are right there are two battery spaces.  For a couple reasons Forge 3D decided to not make a dedicated charger space.  One iteration even had trying to integrate the charger into the Systainer I believe, but decided to get back to being simple and just an insert and not a full systainer modification.

None the less, there is room for a charger.  I was going to put in a small pouch or put some velcro on it and then in the systainer or insert so it stays in place.

What do you think?

Well [member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member], we’ve finally made it over to post!  Let me introduce myself, I am Tyler… Owner and Founder of Forged 3D LLC.  We are a small batch manufacturing and prototyping company based in Atlanta GA that has started producing Systainer related accessories and fit outs.

We’ve been fortunate to work with Systainer.Store over the past several months and have formed a great working relationship which we hope to extend. Personally I am an avid Festool fan and adopted the Sys3 Org system in the shop which lead to this new endeavor.  I’ve been a sporadic participant on a personal level on FOG for a number of years, but taking the step to promoting a business here is something I want to be responsible with.

Now on to the Grabo questions….

There is ample room to adapt the fitout to other accessories and it’s something we are looking at to extend the functionality of the design.  The center sections could have additional customization done to allow for other items to be stored along with the Grabo.  After Tim asked us to look at producing a fitout for the Grabo we instantly purchased one and started playing… We are big fans of vacuum work holding in the shop for our CNC and at the bench with the VAC SYS, so vacuum work lifting seemed like a great progression.  Needless to say, our mad science brains have been spinning since then on other products that we could produce to use with the Grabo… And was one of the reasons we went with a modular design for the center sections… It allows us to adapt the fitout in the future if and when we release other Grabo accessories.

We are happy to take recommendations and feedback on adaptations the market would like to see in any of our products.  We try to use manufacturing techniques that allow for flexibility and agility instead of having to invest in front end tooling which is expensive to change as products and customer needs changes (see the new 18v Grabo that was just announced).

I tried to reach out to forum admins to make sure us responding and posting as a business was on the level, but the private message didn’t go thru.  Happy to hear from anyone that might want to give feedback in this arena.

Thanks

Hi,

Please check your messages. I have replied.

And yes, you can post.  [thumbs up]

Seth

I received my Grabo insert the other day and finally got around to putting it together.
A couple of observations:
- the insert and Grabos fit nicely in an M237. If you want to put them into a larger unit, like the M337, the insert won’t fit without some modifications. The structural pillars at the front of the M337 are larger than those of the M237.
- in the M237, when filling up the case with two Grabos, the unit at the back can rub against the middle hinge. To prevent, this I kept the plastic protector on each of the units. They still fit nicely even with the protectors.

Overall the insert is very well made and fits perfectly in the M237.

Jonny... thanks for the feedback, we didn't test with the M337 or M437 as we typically design for minimal wasted space.  The fitouts we've done in the M337 and M437 have typically been based around a foam material where tolerances aren't quite as exacting, so we didn't even think to take those measurements when designing the more rigid platform.  We do have a couple of other products in the pipeline around the M187 and M237 footprints.

If someone has a real hankering for a M337 or M437 option, let us know... I think the M337 is the only Systainer3 M we don't have banging around in the shop, but I'll take a look at an M437 next week and reach out to [member=68900]Systainer.Store[/member] about getting a comparison between the M337 and M437 front pillars.... If they are the same creating a single variant to cover them both should be something we can do if we get enough interest.

Let us know if you have any additional feedback, we'd love to hear it.
