As an amateur 1-2 weekend/month hobbyist, I'm new to the festool ecosystem. I'm planning to pick up an ETS EC 150/3 for a dining table project, but, the sandpaper costs dwarf the cost of the sander!

All I want is 10-15 sheets of each grit through 1500. I know beyond 320 is probably overkill, but this is a hobby, and I want to see how close to a "polished" surface I can get with just the granat. OakTreeSupply has a kit with the systainer up through 320 grit (I'm ok with skipping some in that range), but that leaves me shy the 400, 500, 800, 1000, 1200, and 1500 grits.

It looks like every now and then, someone tries to do some kind of a group buy and split the multipacks, but I don't see many people getting into the higher grits. Any ideas for what I ought to do?

Yeah, for the higher grids the packs Festool sells are usually even 100 sheets. Then you are depended on a dealer or someone on eBay who splits packs.

There are some pre-filled Systainers on eBay (at least in Germany) that offer what you want, but that usually too ends at 400 grid.

Buy the much cheaper Indasa paper from www.nonpaintstore.nl They will ship all over the world.

I am really glad I am not dependend on Festool to be my sole supplier of sandpaper, they're simply too expensive for consumables.

I am willing to pay the premium for their tools as I think they stand out, but their consumables certainly do not.

I'd love to have some assortment packs. I remember when I was at Burns Tool awhile ago, they had them in store but I didn't see them online.

I have lots of regular 5" paper. I bought one of these hole punch kitshttps://www.harborfreight.com/9-piece-hollow-punch-set-3838.html and used a piece of Festool paper as a template. It was easy to cut 3-4 sheets at a time and it worked great on my Rotex. I'll do that to finish off the paper that I have and then figure out what to do for Festool paper.

Considering the current trend in abrasives towards mesh and the fact that even though Festool also offers a line of that kind of abrasive, they do not produce these themselves.

Price wise a good alternative would be Mirka — they also offer all grits of their mesh series (eg Arbanet) in smaller quantities. I have seen 'official' sampler packs offered with a good range of grits.

Mind that you need an interface pad to use mesh on your ETS.

I can't find it on their website, but I'm almost positive toolsforworkingwood.com sells custom assortments.  Give them a call and ask.  You might have an issue with higher grits though, I suspect those are harder to sell once you open a box.  But if anyone would do it, I think they might.
