Gregory Paolini's Version of Setting Up the MFT/3

Useful for a Festool noob like me to see simple stuff like this, thanks for posting.

I do one thing slightly differently from Gregory. When I am calibrating the fence I tighten the plastic thingy that fixes the end of the fence to the mft. I have found that squaring the fence and then putting this piece on place can force the fence out of square.

It is a small detail but if can be frustrating if you think it's all square and if isn't.

I agree.  Tighten plastic thing first, or it will go out of square.  You can see it move in the video.

+1.

And I don't "slam" the rail brackets against the stops.

[wink]

Other than that, the video was excellent.

As was his video about setting the plunge depth of a (1400) rouer.

+1 on not "slamming" the brackets against the stops.  I just hold them firmly against the stops while clamping them down.  And unless there's some compelling reason, don't even think about moving the stops.  They come perfectly adjusted from the factory.

Thats about how I do it to. Except like you guys, I dont slam the fence. I also leave a full hole at the end.

Good video for out of the box MFT but just seems totally wrong to me after using precision dogs !

+1 on that.  Buying the fence lock dogs has allowed me to shelf the miter gauge and the black plastic piece at the end.
