So last week I contacted Griot's Garage asking about an item number for a complete polishing kit to fit my polisher I bought from them.  The extremely nice customer service representative on the phone looked up account (hasn't been used for years), determined what polisher model I have, and then absolutely shocked me.

"Sir, we no longer support that polisher.  I am going to ship you a return authorization / shipping label, and we will give you a gift card equal to what you paid for the polisher."

About an hour later there was indeed a pre-paid return label in my emails.

I called them again today to inquire when I purchased that polisher.  It was 2006.

So, I am being refunded 100% of what I paid for the polisher after 15 years.

Pretty fabulous service in my book!

Thought with all the auto enthusiast here I would share this.

Nice to know Peter...now that indeed raises the bar for customer service.  [big grin]

The best and only proper way to handle true lifetime warranty/support claims.

Suspect they decided to withdraw those polishers some time ago, way earlier than planned, and pulling them from the owners was seen as more economical to trying to stock specialist accessories for them long term.

And once they made that committment they just stuck to it in their system moving forward.

This is how it should be. Kudos where it belongs!

did that polisher happen to be a porter gable with extra long cable? I bought one about 15 years ago and shipped to Switzerland (it is now with me in the UK) but last time I checked it worked fine-- about a year ago with some of their fine polishing compounds.

Thanks,
Ed

It always looked to me like a red Porter Cable but if it was I don't know.  Mine had the 4 screws mounting the backing plate.

Mine was working properly with little use.  I was just looking to purchase a complete set of the polishing and waxing stuff and wasn't sure about the pad size.  I unfortunately had to store my stuff out of climate controlled areas and all the chemicals froze and separated.  Squirrels ate bottles, bottles became brittle, etc.

My storage situation has totally changed and I now have an indoor space to take time detailing some of my vehicles (some are too tall) so I thought I would start afresh.

I didn't ask for this, they offered.  Shocked the hell out of me and did reenforce my preference for the brand..
